  1. Good advice. thanks Who on earth thought of the idea of a tele pole?! useless. Kicking myself for not having thought it thru.
  2. I have a cheap tele pole, which I find neither use nor ornament, but I do like the idea of pole fishing. Sadly, wqith redundancy, I dont feel able to invest a lot of money right now. What are your opinions on this pole from Amazon or say this one on bebay
  3. Thanks for that. Do you park in the marina?Who has the rights there? Any idea?
  4. I've never eben HEARD of the Devon Mouth - is it a river, and where on the map are u talking about? A link to multimap or google earth would be appreciated. There's plenty of other fishing around Nottingham - lakes, ponds, pits, canals, river, weirs, etc etc.
  5. Yeah, it does look a little exposed, to say the least.
  6. Any tench and decent roach, as far as you know? What's the margin or cloe-in fishing like (my preferred option). Thanks
  7. How did u get on? I live 5 min from these lakes yet have never tried them, but have always been interested to know what they are like, being pretty new. Details and tips please!
  8. ....and when you think about it, we (anglers) can be a bit hypocritical about creature welfare - we all tear worm to shreds, stab maggots and even livebait all in the name of our hobby, yet still we claim to be animal-welfare concious. Just another example of the imperfect world and imperfect human in it I guess (me included)
  9. Thanks. I will give that a try. If what u say is true (and of course it is!) I have been using hooks too small.
  10. I got a huge sack of uncooked hemp from my pet supermarket (eg pets at home etc). I asume its sold as a horse feed? Anyway, it was a few quid for more than you could use in a season or two! Just soak it, cook it and freeze it.
  11. I have tried long worms, short worms, bits of worm, all with the same result. I assume fish are mouthing the bait, or grabbing the dangling bit and running off with it. Does it come down to simply waiting longer for the bite to develop? I did try waiting longer but the fish eventually either swallowed the hook (big perch) or dropped it. Any tips?
  12. Thanks for a great write-up of your great day out. S'funny, but fihing on small ponds where you are surrounded by other angler within spitting distance has never appealed. Because I like solitude, I guess. That and the fact that so many yobbos who I see when fishing would make for a very unpleasant afternoon. Glad you are back "in the swim"
  13. I've never fished there but have always meant to, so sorry unable to help. How do you get to the site? Only seen it on Google Earth so far. Have a great day! Wish I could get on the river too.
  14. Fab info, thanks. By the way, an no offence, the word is "to" not "too" in the context you have been using it - that would make your very useful posts a bit easier to read. Thanks again for the info.
  15. Well it arrived. Its a Shakespeare 8m "In-2 Put-In Pole". Came with two top sections, one of which has an eye at the end, the other having an elastic fitted already. What is the eyed one likely to be for?
  16. For some reason I have ordered an 8m pole from t'ebay, probably cos I saw a vid on t'You t'Tube that said how fab they are. Anyway, It comes with an elastic but I need to know if I can use my normal float tackle ie wagglers, sticks, whatever, or do I need to buy pole rigs and little needle-tipped floats?
  17. I dont understand - is the lift method "better" than other methods for some reason, or just "fun"?
  18. Once you get bitten by the bug.........
  19. What advice do you think made the most difference? I'd like some of that!
  20. I am no pike angler really, but I have caught a few on surface lures from just below the water sports centre's white water run - you access it by going onto the rowing lake's towpath. There's some big stuff in the Finger lakes at the far end of the water sports centre, though they dont exactly jump out at you! Pretty much all the Trent from the city out to Colwick is available on day ticket (if not free) and in 10 yeras I have never seen a bailiff anyway! If I can help more then I'll try. Just let me know.
  21. If anyone is reading this old post the link is now THIS
  22. Sorry - here goes: laptop and desktop running Vista Home My phone is a basic Nokia 2330 Hers is an iPhone (lucky her)
  23. Hi there. Hope you can help. My wife runs a laptop and an iPhone. I have me old desktop and my old mobile! We would really like a centrally-stored address/phone book, which we can use to maintain our various devices, as of course many entries will be common to us both, although we add work-specific ones from time to time. She currently used Yahoo Mail, which does a job on her laptop and phone. I use Hotmail at the mo, tho could change. How to maintain ONE database of names/numbers, yet still be able to import them to phones? TIA
  24. Am working in KIA for a few weeks, though I travel from Nottingham. Can someone recommend a smallish river or picturesque pond in the area (or between there and Nottingham) so I can get a couple of hours in on the way home at night? Thanks
  25. That made me laugh out loud. I know exactly what you mean. Wen you're just used to the odd 4lb tench and lots of silver fish, such a lump sure gets the rear end loosened! It was satisfying because a)I had spotted the carp basking in the reeds and had managed, after an hour and half's baiting and waiting, finally managed to get them feeding. I missed a couple of knocks, and wondered if my waggler set up was too rough, so reduced the line to 6lb bottom and a 12 hook, moved the bottom shot up a bit and re-cast. The big bite cam only minutes later I learnt a lot from that experience - dont just sit there without making changes, as much as anything else. Now, off to find a double (only had one of 11lb last season so far)
