    Spod Rod?

Wouldn't be easy to be honest, firstly, you'd have to incorporate a trigger mechanism, then a servo of some kind to trigger the mechanism, then have a electronic receiver with the necessary range and a battery coupled to that. And all being 100% waterproof. Then there's the transmitter, with enough range in all weather conditions. Would be fairly bulky and heavy, and a spod is big enough as it is without all the gubbins of a remote trigger. Easy way round the mis-casts.....................................................Practice my dear boy :D :D
  6. I'll put a photo up when I get home to show you what I've used for the past 7-8 years
  7. Thats why I use sink plug chain, it's lightweight and flexible enough for the job
  8. Not possible to join 2 together, but you might be able to buy longer quivers which are for quiver tip rods. You can use any combination of arms, but you can't join them together, you could extend the swing arms by getting longer stainless rod (maybe bicycle spokes or similar).
  9. Thats the newer style of quiver-loc, I have the older one, which has the swinger, lower strength quiver, hi-strength quiver to keep tension on the line. In all honesty, the best indicator is what's best for the conditions you're fishing in, if little or no wind, then I'll use the hangers/chains on a relatively slack line. If it's windy, then I'll use the quiver style to keep tension on the line and in direct contact with the lead. I don't ever use a swinger style indicator, just don't like them as I don't find them anywhere near as sensitive
  10. If the weathers calm with little or no wind, then I'll use chains, but if its windy, then I'll use the solar quiver-loc quivers (not the new one the old one with the detachable arms).
  11. Ok own up! Who let the n00b out of his cage? :D
  12. St Johns is known for responding to heavy baiting (spodding), and back when I was fishing there in the early 00's, Manor was very difficult with st johns being a lot easier, I don`t know if its changed much since, as the last time I was there was in 2003
  13. Only once in the past 29 years have I ever been asked for my rod license
  14. Damn weather, nightmare put a stop to my trip
  15. Lol, I've got plenty of warm clothes, and a big thick sleeping bag, and a trakker bedchair cover, hopefully they'll be warm enough:D

    Spod Rod?

I wasn't meaning as a comp, just stating that a rod designed for the job can reach distances that a rod that wasn't designed for the job cannot, and will most likely break under the strain of the cast. Hell, I've broken 3lb tc rods on casting 3oz leads, so wouldn't even dream of using a rod that isn't designed to cast that kind of weight.
  17. I'm out for 4 days next week, (monday to thursday) so hopefully I'll have a carp or 2 as it's meant to warm up a little from monday onwards

    Spod Rod?

I've a greys 5lb tc spod rod and have cast 6oz loaded spods 100yds or so, it's got a very progressive action and takes a huge amount of abuse, I'd like to see a 3lb tc rod with the same spod try it, I think the rod would explode, even short chucks with it are easily done thanks to the action of the rod.
  19. Unless you're fishing more than 100-120 yards, then theres no need for bigpit reels, hell, I've hit 100+ yds using an 8010 baitrunner, 12ft 2lb tc rod, and 2.25oz lead. (have witnesses to prove that).
  20. I'll only use a pod as a last resort, I don't use single banksticks either as carrying 8 (for 4 rods) of them really takes its toll not only on the body, but on the wallet too lol, I tend to use snag bars whenever I can, its by far the most stable set up and have never really needed anything else
  21. Thats definitely good to know steve, as it's 4 rods now I might try 2 on zigrigs at different depths, and the other 2 on bottom baits which worked well for me the let time I was there where I had 5 runs, and 3 fish on the bank.
  22. Might have to have one rod on the zig rig when I'm up there next, might even copy nashy's idea and mould some foam into beetle looking baits
