  1. Thanks Newt i'll put one on my "things i want" list. mine's ok for now , but by the looks of it, it doesn't do anything else but find fish. even then you have to know the depth... so if a fish shows up halfway on the display, and the water is 6metres deepth, you know the fish is at 3metres. hmm
  2. i've thought about getting one of the Hummingbird ones, at some point. am i right in saying you have to change the little sensor unit from time to time, or do you get spare batteries for it? i heard from someone they only last so long, but didn't know if they meant the battery, or the whole unit.
  3. i still haven't tried the one i got from Lidl months ago (the one on a long wire) was going to take it to Ullswater for use on the dinghy, but forgot it in the end is that the one you mean B-Phil ? i'll take it on my next outing to the pond, and report back
  4. Hi Sandman yeah, i've seen a few names pop up here from there.. i joined here beforei found "MD's".
  5. Well done Charles, a great programme. i enjoyed the series so far, and not having Sky, or any other digi service... your programmes are a "god send" for me i like the looking into different cultures/traditions, as well as the fishing. keep up the good work, and i'll look forward to the next show(s).
  6. i wish Lubing up your pole elastic. it was a tip in one of my "porn" mags.
  7. It's a combination of things that makes her say that Budgie. Here's a few examples.... 1 The music on my videos/dvds. 2 Holding your rod 3 Pinkies. 4 Whips and accessories 5 Maggot 6 Applying Lube 7 Pole 8 Tackle 9 Lob 10 Tip The list goes on, and on, and on and on.
  8. How long do the offers stay on for ? might not be able to get to one on Saturday.
  9. WHAT AN UGLY BRUTE. The fish is much better looking
  10. i got the old analogue sky set up from a friend when he got digi. it was good for Channel5 , QVC , etc now they've been taken off it, i'm left with 34 German channels, and 2 English speaking ones (CNN & Eurosport). i'll probably wait until we get rehoused (could be anytime now) and get Sky. i'm dying to watch some Angling programmes, or fish porn as Mrs Chewy calls it
  11. Are these fish finders any good ? thinking of getting one if they're ok. What would you get on the Sattelite kit ? i'm in a crap area for tv, no cable or freeview coverage here waaaa
  12. Might it be better to look into joining a club if there is any nearby ? the one i am in is £27 for an adult, and £6 for a junior per year with 6 ponds and 2 rivers to choose from. Some are more expensive, but still works out cheaper than keep forking out for day tickets, when you can go as much as you want for a full year.

  14. Great pictures there Mr Newt i love to watch them on tv, hopefully will get to a monster show when they're over here. And late Happy Birthday Jan, a year older, yet a year wiser
  15. i got told to try banana, and bread too. on my next outing, i'm going to try banana and bread together (mashed banana spreaded on bread).
  16. What are your views on fishing a river when the water is a little higher, faster and brown with mud due to the rain? i want to play out tomorrow, but with it being a Sunday, the buses aren't to good to get to the usual haunts. i'm thinking of fishing the Irwell for trout. what bait apart from worms would be good for them ? Thanks
  17. also why are they still paper ? Fishing involves a lot of water. the rain can be a problem, and the lake, river, canal etc is easily a hazard to fall into. i think a waterproof plastic card with a photo should be introduced (that floats with a strip or 2 of a bouyant material on the reverse). Also i think tackle shops should only sell items when a valid licence is produced. may decrease the number of license dodgers ?
  18. Not as much litter, but more discarded line where i go. i find a bit on the ground, and find it going all over the place. it's a miracle how the ducks are still there. Luckily it hasn't been as bad since they put the new fencing around the venue.
  19. when cutting up a tin of luncheon meat the night before an outing, i must eat 1/3 of the stuff picking at it Spam fried is one of my favourites
  20. i always take worms out with me. i find an inch piece of chopped worm can vary my catches. one might bring in a perch of a few ounces the next might be a carp of 5-6 lb's. always a suprise for me finding what's on the hook with worm.
  21. definatley a no no. my mate got the same starter kit. the rod wasn't up to much. neither is the reel the rod's reel fitting was of the ring type, that wouldn't fit the reel correctly. (on every cast the reel fell of the rod, he ended up putting a couple of turns of insulation tape on, to be sure it stayed in place) the hooks are a complete waste of time. (i ended up giving him some of mine) The floats are cheap and nasty (they don't have the weight needed printed on them, and are a bit thick and clumsy, shy bites/small fish won't be detected. My mate didn't know he had a fish on the hook until he reeled it in to recast)) the landing net is tiny, and is like something you would use for a garden pond. (doesn't look legal to me, and has no water lily badge upon) the line is not that good. (might be ok for a sea fishing session or heavier coarse fishing. again i gave my mate about 6foot of my line to tie on the end) the disgorger (not bad,, 2nd best item in the kit) rod rest (bit of bent steel rod, 80p each from my local tackle shop) weights (bit big, could have put some smaller sizes in to, think BBs was the smallest in the pack) bait box (too small, but ok for a small tin of sweetcorn, handful of worms, 1/4 pint of maggots etc) catapult (bit naff, and won't last long) plummet (best item in the kit) float rubbers (not bad) Chewy's overall rating 1/10
  22. hmmmm Thanks Budgie. i only pushed another eye on the break that accepted a "screw in" device. easy enough to take off again, as not stuck it on. was a bit desperate after only taking the 1 rod miles away from home, only to find it broke when i unpacked it .
