  1. For all you bait pumpers, this is a new product which should set the market standard for years to come. The Kimera mk1 bait pump is the first fully stainless steel bait pump on the market. Best of all, the suppliers will build it to a custom size to suit you. I'm seriously thinking of getting one, as I'm 6'3" and the popular model, even though it's the longest currently on the market, kills my back! For an exclusive look CLICK HERE
  2. I thought you might be interested in a new video me and a couple of mates have knocked up about pumping for Black lugworm.... http://www.anglingaddicts.co.uk/forum/view...hp?f=5&t=36 It's aimed at newcomers and beginners really, but others might find it useful too hopefully
  3. My mate Paul rang TerryG and said the weather was looking good for a trip out this weekend on the kayaks. Unfortunately due to other commitments Terry was unable to take it out for a paddle, and being the kind generous soul that he is, he offered me the chance of taking it out and having a bash. As a complete newbie and hoping to buy my own yak in the near future, I was looking forward to seeing how Terry's Big game compared to Paul's Trident 13. I went round to Paul's where Tez's yak is currently being stored and helped him load the yaks on the roof bars and we were soon down at the launch site, Half Moon Bay Heysham It looked a glorious, if cold, morning with light to no winds and clear blue sky......but as we prepped our vessels, a sea mist rolled in It was disappointing to say the least as we were hoping to have a good pad around, see how the yaks handled and take a few pics of the area We decided to concentrate on less touring and more fishing and anchored up off a local mark called Throbshire Point Heysham. It's a well known Plaice mark in spring/summer, and though we thought it maybe a bit early in the year for plaice, there could be the odd whiting or flounder still about.... This was Paul's first time at anchoring after setting up his anchor trolley, so we were both a little nervous.. Probably thanks to curly's tutelage the other week, the procedure went off without a hitch 8-) as a complete novice to kayaking (though I am a dinghy angler with over 10 years experience of Morecambe Bay), we decided it would be easiest for me to tie off from Paul's yak.....discretion the better part of valour methinks! I was impressed with the stability of the Big Game, and felt comfortable enough to sit side saddle while I adjusted the fittings on seat (which I'd set up cockeyed!) One thing about the Big Game we both noticed was its prevalence to swing about in the fairly strong Morecambe Bay tide, I felt quite giddy at one point ;D We both thought that possibly the Big Game isn't suited to anchoring/tieing off from the back, maybe due to the way it 'flares' out in steps at the back or lack of pronounced keel? ??? We decided to try our theory out and I tied off from the front of the Big Game onto Paul's yak and this cured the problem instantly, the Big Game sat straight and true in the tide We were piling on the Black Lug and getting the odd bite but not connecting Throbshire point loomed out of the mist as the sun began to burn its way through, and with the fishing being so slow we decided to follow our original plan and have a good tour round As we came in closer, it was apparent we weren't the only ones out fishing.... Paul made the decision to pop ashore for 'ablutions'...... ;D I took this as an opportunity to explore the nooks and crannies of the point.... I quickly found the old landing bay carved out of the rock, used in bygone days by local smugglers..... You can still see steps carved into the stones, just visible under the thick blanket of weed.... Paul 'finished' up and we carried on exploring We decided on another fish and thus another chance to practice anchoring and tying off..... I was rewarded with a half decent and unexpected Plaice.. A bit thin and spent but most welcome nonetheless... Heysham power stations looming out the mist in the distance...... This got our hopes up but proved to be the only fish of the day, though to be fair, we wanted to carry on 'prowling' about and trying out the yaks... With it being slack water and the mist totally lifted, we opted for a more challenging paddle offshore to a pair of cardinal markers in the channel...... On the way back, looking down Heysham north wall On the way back, myself and Paul decided to swap yaks and see how they compared. Paul was immediately struck that the Big Game was harder to paddle and slower than his trident. By this point, I was too tired to take much notice to be honest! ;D Soon enough, it was time to come back ashore after a most satisfying afternoon, it really opened my eyes to the potential of the kayak
  4. That's right.......rub it in!! It's a dogfish plague in Morecambe Bay at the moment...they're everywhere!!

Oh....and a stray mackerel...... Some pics of the day.... Paul (MrBay) was out with TerryG aboard We all know what a dab looks like...one of many and not very big.. One of the marks we tried off Walney, to the left was a beach which looked busy with anglers.... We tried all the way up Walney, including a few marks from people 'in the know',even into the Duddon estuary but mr cod wasn't playing out..... A late big mackerel for Paul 1.5lb He always anchors this close!! Look closer...lazy bugger!! This is the only picture of a dogfish I'm gonna post..... A bad end to the day for Paul unfortunately...... Moments like this is when being in a club comes into its own, people scurrying around getting tools and helping out getting the trailer usable again....brilliant! A big thanks to Colin (and Roger!) for helping.... and a big thanks to Ross for the retrieve
  6. Morecambe dinghy angling club has now got a new website, full of information for anyone about dinghy/small boat fishing in Morecambe bay, with access to Blackpool, Rossall, Barrow and Walney www.morecambedinghyanglingclub.co.uk We have had a fantastic year, with some excellent fish being caught. The Bass fishing early in the year turned up several good fish in the 6-8lb range. Unfortunately the Cod fishing in the North West hasn't materialized as yet but we are still hopeful of a bumper trip to Barrow or Blackpool. The Tope fishing was little hit and miss, but an odd trip did return reasonable numbers off Barrow & Walney. The Smoothhound fishing off Blackpool & Rossall was a spectacular success, peeler crab being the all important bait...... see the reports section on the forum...
  7. At last, a red letter day! Everything that we had planned came off for once! target species achieved and much much more Me and Bill decided we'd target the smoothhounds down at Blackpool Armed with a load of cracklers/crinklies (cheers wayne) and peelers me and MrBay had gathered (cheers paul) we launched at 8.45am (cheers Steve Winter!) I won't mention the fact that 'Up Yours' arrived at the slip a good 20 minutes after us...yet still managed to launch before us!! I won't mention it 'cos Gary Young's built like a Silverback and twice as ugly......just like his crew for the day! Anyway, that was the only downer of the day as we steamed off towards our chosen destination..........a much closely guarded secret destination, passed down from father to (first born only) sons for generations........otherwise known as (Shhhhh !! Whisper it!! ) .....Blackpool We arrived one and a half hours before low and dropped the pin in and cast out more in hope than expectation within seconds of the bait hitting the bottom the rod tip started dancing which resulted in a small tope......... Very next cast resulted in our target species......... Next cast, as soon as the bait hit the water............. Then Bill........... It was unbelievable.......as soon as the baits hit the water the fish were on, making screaming runs with the reels disengaged on ratchet. Mainly smoothhounds with the occasional tope for good measure. It was HECTIC.......30 fish in 2 hours. We didn't have time to set up the second rods for the first half hour, and pictures were out of the question most of the time.... We still managed a few piccies when the fish allowed us........ And the odd video..... Remarkably the fish continued to come thick and fast even over slack water............. Some really good specimens were coming aboard, fish to 15lb..... After low water had come and gone and the flood started, the fishing slowed down a bit for some reason ??? instead of a fish a cast, we were only managing a fish every other cast....but they were better quality smoothies.... The Starry smoothhounds put up a terrific fight, really hard fighting and they stay down deep for ages...... I burnt the clutch out on one of my reels so, for a bit of fun, I decided to set up my bass spinning rod for the hounds........ Bloody good fun, a fish of around 12lb........ We were knackered by now......we worked it out we'd had around 500lb of fish in the session!! Superb!! Steaming back to base, we noticed a commotion amongst some gulls near King Scar, so we went over for a nosey and discovered a decomposing porpoise by the looks of it........... When we got back to Morecambe, the other boats had had good days too.....Steve's lad Ben had a personal best bass of 6lb! A brilliant day, let's hope the match next week is as good
