  1. Just a question and im not being ageist but looking at it the vast {not the word vast} magority of you anti pole anglers must be over the age of 40, when you learnt to fish the modern pole wasnt around or in its infancy, i learnt to fishing using the shitteist fibreglass rod in the world for the 1st 5 outings i never caught a fish {bit like now} went to the local tackle shop the recomended a whip and rig, no reel=less tangles as a 9 yr old and 1st cast i caught a gudgeon and that was it i was hooked so i suffered with the dreaded polietis for a fare few seasons. Dont know what the hell this has got to do with rod vs reel debate but im boared {should be cleaning the windows}

    Wier pools!

    It probably looks suspiciously like where you went because it is lol, same here all i took was big baits with me even tried under the wier for an hr with 1/2 a tin of meat on my hook to no avail! You ever fished the bend just down stream of the wier? I keep looking at it thinking one day!

  6. Have to agree with kleinboet on this one what ever helps you catch fish works for me. as it happens i go fishing occasionaly with one of the wifes uncles and hes been so impressed by using the pole {my old one} hes asked me to look out for one for him, hes only been fishing a year and hes 65 but he does listen to what you have to say. While on the subject to the pole anglers out there who bins there rigs once theyve used them once? Am i strange in doing it? One session and its float back in the box and line and shot in the bin.
  7. Got up at 2.00 this morning to go down to my localish wier pool to try and catch a barbel or chub by 7.30 id had enough not one bite { apart from a very angry foul hooked pike } tried all the usual baits such as pellets,boilies and meat i know this spell of warm weather has been affecting the fishing but was i doing anything wrong? Was fishing 2 rods 1 with a bolt rig the other a bog standard running ledger rig {changing to a cage feeder with pellets} any ideas chaps. And just to help heres a piccy of the pool.

  20. All depends what elastic you have in your pole and baits your using? if it were me id use wb clarkes match team {formerly silstar} in 5.5lb 6.6lb or 7.9lb {the diameters escape me at the mo}depending on how snaggy the swim is, meat on corn a size 8 or 10 kamasan animal spade or for hair rigging paster a simlar hook pattern but hair rig it using a korda paste spring. but its different strokes for different folks isnt it
