I want to buy some new line for my reel in time for the new season. I'll be fishing mainly on the Severn for barbel and wanted some advice on the best line to go for. I've been looking at Fox Soft Steel and Insight GR60 both in 10lb BS. Has anyone used either of these lines, and are they any good? Also are there any advantages to using a clear or green/brown line?
  2. Jungle Formula is the best by far in my opinion
  3. Thanks alot mate, thats really useful, so should I use corn, pellets or maggots as a hookbait
  4. Thanks Rabbit, that helps alot. One other thing, alot of anglers seem to be using red mainline such as red mist. They claim it's because red is the first colour to become invisible underwater. Have any of you tried it, and is it any good? I only ask 'cos I would have thought that it is assuming that fish see colours in the same way we do, and I haven't seen any evidence that they do!!
  5. I going to have a go at some carp on the fly rod this summer, but as I don't tie my own flies does anyone know where I can order chum mixer flies either online or mail order. They're usually tied with spun deer hair and tied to imitate floating dog buscuits, but I can't seem to find them anywhere on the net. Any help gratefully received.
  6. With the new season only a month or so away, I'm starting to look forward to getting on the river after some barbel. I'm looking for somewhere on the Severn and I've heard that Hampton Loade, Bridgnorth and Bewdley are all worth a go. Anyone got any suggestions on venues and or tactics? I read somewhere about the "Time Bomb" feeder rig, has anyone else heard of this, and if so what is it?
  7. I'll be fishing a float rod with a waggler, I don't own a pole yet.
  8. It will probably be Mill Pool
  9. I'm fishing Furnace Mill near Kidderminster this weekend. It's the first time I've fished there and also the first time I've done any course fishing for a number of years (I usually go fly fishing). Can any of you give me some advice on tactics, baits etc, that will help me to catch a few fish? I've heard that hemp is a good feed there, and was wondering how much I should take for a days fishing and how much should I feed at a time? Any advice will be appreciated.
