  1. I work hard. I earn money. I pay an excessively high proportion of it over to the government in tax. I go home and try to relax by going fishing in my local river. But I gotta get a license first, otherwise I'm deemed to be having fun without consent. Personally, I object .
  2. I've been fishing the rivers of England since I was 4 years old (currently 39), and it's always bugged the hell out of me that I've got pay for a fishing license at all. I pay a small fortune in income tax, and I don't see why fishing the rivers of our country can't be a free pursuit (a bit like owning a dog). I guess the Government see people enjoying themselves and start registering pound signs ... well sod 'em, good luck to you Simon
  3. Jesus Christ, just what are these politically correct echo warriors trying to achieve? They've **** me off, and I'm not even Scottish ...
  4. There's some pretty big ones in Northern Territories / Western Australia too - below came from Kunanarra in the Kimberlys, which is where I'd head every time (lots of space and not too many people)
  5. certainly agree with that - i get an almighty buz seeing a fish take a bait off the surface, whether its dry fly fishing, crust or floaters ... can't beat it
  6. Bob, all the fishermen from down-under that I've spoken to have claimed that carp are an invasive pest that are easy to catch and don't fight very hard. The above sizes do not exceed 20lb ... is almost seems as if we're talking about a different species?
  7. assuming still summers day, as soon as you see the line move on the surface of the water
  8. Thanks Jeep. Suggest that the brotherhood of the angle now moves forward with a Of course, it appears that messrs Boote & Wade still have a few issues to resolve but I guess that's none of our business (thank god)
  9. Ayjay, on the contrary, the answer is quite simple. I joined June 1 and found an interesting thread in which Paul Boote levelled criticism at his one time partner and collaborator, Jeremy Wade. At no point had anyone asked him to clarify why, so I did (albeit 5 months after the event). Paul responded promptly, effectively alleging that he had been conned out of his share of the proceeds from 'Somewhere Down the Crazy River', and that elements of this forum and the angling community at large were conspiring against him. To quote : "there's something deeply nasty going on vis-a-vis the Paul Boote name and reputation at present ... deeply, deeply nasty". He then expressed a desire to leave anglers net. At this point I got a bit upset and had a go at Jeepster, who appears to have been taking pot shots at Paul for some time now. Jeepster defended his stance by calling Paul an "egotistical ****" and claiming that many other members of the forum agreed with him. I then started to tire of the whole sorry business and apologised to Jeepster for calling him a "sad git". Confused? I'm not surprised .... so am I.
  10. jeepster, sorry i was out of line back there. I was in an emotional frame of mind but its no excuse for calling someone a 'sad git' - im sure its not true and i apologise.
  11. You got me confused now, who wants to leave? As for resurrecting a 6 month old topic, there's obviously an apettite for it otherwise we wouldn't still be woffling on about it. Seems to me that certain people are quite happy to dish out the flack as long as they don't have to take any back ...
  12. my last posting i said i didnt want to get involved in this but ive just changed my mind. jeepster, please go do something more than constructive than winding people up who you know nothing about (i used to do it when i was 18, but i grew out of that a long time ago) .. from what ive read ur just a sad git with nothing much to contribute
  13. Not sure if i want to get too involved in all this. From one angler at least thanx for your part in SDTCR, and thanx for your input into Casting for Gold. Both utterly enthralling, and the inspiration behind my love affair with mahseer fishing. If you ever feel like doing another joint project bear me in mind (promise not to rip you off!)
  14. Paul, I'm finding all this rather disturbing. I don't doubt that you were the one who conceived the trips, but my understanding is that you and Jeremy wrote alternate chapters. Are you telling us that the proceeds weren't split on a 50/50 basis? If not, why not? As far as the man-eating goonch is concerned, I was in the region earlier this year, and the local's in the village are absolutely adamant that a monstrous goonch has taken a small boy and a buffalo. Of course, it's quite likely that the whole thing is a 'loch ness monster' type hoax, but where's the harm in that? The river in question (a large snow-fed of similar proportions to the Ganges) is certainly big enough to hide any number of unknown creatures in it's murky depths. I'm not saying I believe it, but I certainly don't disbelieve it either. I've never met Jeremy Wade face to face, but we've spoken on the phone several times and he's always come across as a real gentleman. If you're feeling short-changed over something that happened 15 years ago, I don't understand why you can't make contact and try to sort it out - you obviously got along well enough once, and as one of the other contributors pointed out, life's too short .....

  17. Well I consider myself pretty much of a jo public type and I was in india while the series was being run with the same guides, same locations and virtually the same result. Cost was £65 a day all in, including travel to / from Delhi, all food, a shikar team totalling 10 individuals and a couple of complementary bottles of Old Monk rum. It's the fifth time I've been with this outfit and will I return? possibly, in a couple years time ... wanna explore Burma and Nepal next
