  1. Good luck for tomorrow Grant. I will see you in the evening. Are you nervous yet? I am and mines still 4 weeks away.
  2. Thanks YY and Prowler Those pins dont say how long they are though. If long enough they look just the job. YY it is not the removing of the current pins that is the problem it is getting them back in the axle that takes ages. Hopefully I can find those pins in the right length.
  3. Prowler, Thanks for the advice I had not though of that. Certainly easier than undoing the clips each time. Thanks for the advice about the rubber washers too. I might get some pipe insulation foam, so that the kayak rests on the foam instead. Did you go out at the weekend? I did but it was too windy to do any meaningful fishing, but it was good to try out my new Caper. It is certainly easier to paddle than the Frenzy used to be.
  4. I have one of these trolleys and find the clips that go through the poles to stop the wheels falling off really hard to use (Hope you can see pins on the pic). I remove the wheels from the trolley to store them inside my Caper while on the water, however I usually spend 5 mins battling with these clips before I am away. There must be easier clips/pins that I could use. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  5. Thanks Spanner I will take a look at those sites. Are most of you members of the B.A.S.S Society then? I will have to get myself signed up to do my bit for the Bass stocks. Prowler, Are you venturing out tom?
  6. Thanks Simon, I will bear all your great advice in mind. I do have a YoZuri SB Slider and I had a Bass hit it with a big swirl last weekend. Only had the one Bass though. I think I reel in the surface lures too fast. I tend to work the rod tip but reel at the same time. I will try like you said work the rod tip and then reel in the slack line before working the rod tip again. Is there a good website on the net to buy lures from? I have bought a few from E-bay but can't always find the ones I want. I will make sure I get the ones you have suggested. In the past I have stuck to YoZuri, Rapala and the lucky Craft Sammy. I have found these makes good. How important do you think the colour is? Do you think the Bass really see the coulour when a lure is splashing about on the surface? Are they not just hitting the lure because of the disturbance it creates? Also, in what depth of water do you tend to use surface lures up to? As soon as I get in more than about 6ft of water I tend to use diving lures, but recently I have been thinking should I not use surface lures up to say 10ft - 15ft. I would have thought they attracted more attention than diving lures. What advice would you give me as to when to use what depth of lure or is it mainly trial and error to see what works on the day? Thanks Tris
  7. Think I will try and pick one of those up of e-bay too. I have had quite a few fish with the Rapala think it is J13. The jointed lures do seem to work well. I have only been lure fishing of my kayak for just over a year now. Would somebody mind giving me a list of say the top 5 lures that catch? I will make sure I either have them or go out and get them. You guys really do give good advice. I have only been looking on here about a week and have found out lots of new ideas that I would like to try already. Keep up the good work.

    Upgrade?

I have sold my Frenzy and am going to pick up my new angling edition Caper after work. Can't wait to try it out, hopefully the wind will drop soon.
  9. Many thanks. I will send him an email.

    Upgrade?

Anyone up for fishing this Saturday? Low tide is 12.42pm so will probably go 12ish weather permitting. Would be good to meet up with other Jersey Kayakers and see how things should be done.
  11. I would go to the Bahia Peninsula in Mexico and target Marlin. It is susposedly the best place in the world to catch them. In most destinations you could trawl for 2 weeks to catch one, I have heard of people catching 4 in a day there. I am hopefuly going next year with the missus. We will hopefully spend a few days in a nice beach resort, then head in land to visit the Aztec temples before travelling across for a few days Marlin fishing. I have tried for Marlin twice before but as yet have still not caught one. Fingers crossed.
  12. Hi all, This is my first post in the coarse fishing forum altough I have been posting in the kayaking forum recently. I moved to Jersey, C.I just over 4 years ago now. Although I have got into fishing for Bass from my kayak I do miss coarse fishing. I have tried a couple of resevoirs in Jersey, using match fishing tactics that I used successfully in the UK for Carp and Tench but was plagued by small roach and perch. I would greatly appreciate the benefit of anyones knowledge about the best resevoirs to try in Jersey and what tactics work best. I am mainly interested in catching Tench and Carp. Should I persevere or just resign my coarse fishing tackle to the loft and stick to my kayak? Thanks everyone and tight lines.

    Upgrade?

Thanks Art That link is very useful. I was planning on buying an angling edition if I do decide to upgrade to a Caper. However the link will prove very useful when installing a fish finder, compass etc.

    Upgrade?

I was planning to go out at low tide Saturday lunchtime, but the weather is not looking too good. Will give anyone who might be interested an update nearer the time. Does anyone else have a Frenzy for fishing? If so what are your thoughts on the pros and cons between it and the Caper. The Frenzy is very stable, in fact it could deal with conditions beyond what I would be comfortable with. Therefore the more speed that the Caper would offer and the fact that it is still fairly stable is steering me towards it.

    Upgrade?

Prowler, thanks for your advice. I tried a Prowler 13, but I dont really have the space for it. I think a Caper would be the biggest I could fit in my garage. What do you see as the main advantages of the Prowler over the Caper? Grant, thanks I will have a go in yours next time we go out then. We will definately all have to meet up to have a chat and try to catch some fish.
