  1. I used to fish this canal quite a bit in the 90s - always walked around as I am not keen on feeding (feels awfully like feeding goldfish in a pond and sneaking in a hook, cant stand it, feels like a breach of trust!), loads of Perch, eels, Dace (yup!, in a canal, by the park overflow) and silverfish. All I saw yesterday was a small shoal of fry (3 - 6") and a dead bream. Also noted, moron(s) had left fishing line on the ground, completely unacceptable in this century and warrants an unlubricated a$$ rape by donkey. Anyone else: Do you know any other free to fish stretches of water near preston? River banks, streams, ponds? TIA

  3. 8 hours, 14 miles of walking up and down Lancaster Canal - not ONE FISH. used 4 maggots. But still it was a n-nice d-day out....<twitch> Udhi
  4. Ta mate, thats good news. I think I will go drown a worm on Friday.
  5. Right managed to get a hold of a rod licence. They could not tell me if Lancaster Canal had a close season March - June. Any ideas? The tackle shop wasnt particularly forthcoming either, although they told me I that I do not need a Wanderer Permit....
  6. While clearing out my garage, I found my gishing tackle - time to go back, get plugged into nature methinks. I used to fish Lancaster Canal, running from its end in Preston up to Catforth/Garstang. Any idea what clubs run this stretch? Can I get annual permits? Warmest Regards
  7. Hello Newt, Is there any way I can use SerenBlue as my my Display name and Username? I had no idea that they were different and I apologise for the oversight (a subscription will come your way, I trust that will prove a sufficient penance!) Warmest Regards Udhi
  8. Hello Elton, Sorry I could not PM you from this username. Could you reset this username to use asuran25AThotmailDOTcom, please? And "euthanise" tiddles. Warmest Regards Udhi
  9. Ah well, Its good to know that these types are out there, I am sure someone will benefit from info on non-Uk techniques. What are MUSKY and WALLEYE rods all about then?? Will keep looking.
  10. Ideal (feminine?) situation would be to have a wet (not just damp) towel lying on the ground near the landing area. Bring fishy in, straight onto towel, fold towel over fish, head sticking out slightly. Gentle pressure to hold it in place, remove hook and straight back in the water. I personally think the towel is better than the hands to handle the fish, as we might inadverdantly grip and twise with our hands. whereas the towel just "straigh jackets" the fish. You should technically have little or no slime on your hands and leave more slime on the fish If I am moving, the fish is held in the water and released in the best circs. Udhi
  11. Hi all, Was looking for nice spin rods when I came across a US shop selling NOODLE rods. What the heck are these, what would its action or purpose be if it was being used in the UK? - Pike rod? Spinning (med/hev/Light?), chub? Carp? Stiff? floppy? Udhi
  12. Great. Any idea who to contact re joining/fishing there? Looked on the net, and they seem quite "Ninja"
  13. Guys, Profuse apologies for not replying to this sooner. The email warning thingy to report new replies has not been set it seems.....nuts to that then. Thanks a lot for all your messages, I am looking at all the waters and clubs mentioed - especially a VERY juicy looking piece of the canal north of me, running under the M57 motorway. Alan, you are very generous, hope fully will mither you sometime! Warmest Regards
  14. Hi all, Just moved into Merseyside from Lancs. I am looking for places to go fishing, either running (preffered) or still water. Hopefully, it would be out of the way from the public. Definitely not farmed waters. Can someone suggest some places for me pls? Also a few names of clubs to contact/join for access to "owned rights". I need to get out and wet a line before I completely lose my mind - I am in the lower Croxteth/West Derby area. Fishing type is probably spinning/light coarse (no nets or van full of tackle larks, just rod/reel/line/hook/weight/bait). Ta
