  1. Hi Elt and the rest of the mods, the side bar didnt automatically show up in ie7, had to select it, but yea i like it, much more obvious than clickin ght logo to get to the rest of the site
  2. off in the morning, all packed up trailer full, four of us going, should be great fun, and hopefully a few fish to boot, will give you all a report when i get back.
  3. Chris, i will be in pasais from saturday morning, so if someone could get it to me in south wales asap i could bring it over for you, i think your about 15 miles from where im staying, but, i am leaving 7:30 am in the morning, sorry i didnt see this earlier.
  4. HAppy Birthday AN, thanks to elton and all the mods, for what must be one of the best angling sites i visit, cheers, i will be celebrating on friday for you in france with some big carp sturgeon and catfish wow, just realised in june, i will have been visiting the site 6 years!!!!!!
  5. Yes Chris, a ledger stop, set it all up as if you where using a light free running ledger set up, but with a float added, you can just use the lead/feeder to cockthe float, but as i said the float will be very bouyant so try if you can to use the corect amount of shot to set the float instead, great fun.
  6. I really enjoy ledgering with a float, a nice light bomb or feeder, set your float up as usual, (with shot), or it is to bouyant, good fun and a sure fire way of making sure your float and your bait stay where you want them. and as you say sink your line, and adjust till the float is where you want it.
  7. Cheers Al, long time no speak what sort of size for the meat, the sturgeon go to about 15lb, around the same size as the donkey choker pellets?
  8. Just thought i would bring this back to the top, as im off on friday, he he he,
  9. Hi Tony i havnt had any interaction with defender at all so far, so cant really coment on that, but, i can look into it for you, what update programes is it blocking, and what sort of messages are you getting, im just asking this because it sounde similar to the user account control. you can always cut it out completely, Start>control panel>windows defender, a window will open, with a few options at the top, one of those is tools, Click this, then click options, untick Automatically scan my computer, this should stop it, but as i say mine is set to the default settings, and it hasnt bothered me at all so far. so let us know whats happening
  10. Your right Andy like i said in my initial post its a form of prefetch, it predicts(based on how you use your machine) what you are going to do, and stores this in available memory, and helps load programes faster and that sort of thing, but as soon as you need the memory it gives it back, no questions, this combined with the new hard drive cache, is now called now called superfetch, and it really does seem to hold it all together well.
  11. Hi tony, i think you are on about User Account Control, it can get anoying, but its good security, if you want to turn this off, go to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts and family safety(the green text part)>User Accounts, and at the bottom click "Turn User Account Control On or Off" you wil then see a tick box, untick it, click ok and you will have a popup free system. if you are in Classic veiw this would be,Start>control panel>user accounts, and at the bottom click "Turn User Account Control On or Off" you wil then see a tick box, untick it, click ok and you will have a popup free system. it might not seem to make sence to have this turned on, while running as admin, but if you have individual user accounts, and you should have even for yourself, its a great way of stopping folk installing programes without permition, and at worst, really messing your machine up, by allowing nasty access from "the other side". hope this helps. Newt a couple of days before i got my DVI-RGB adapter, i tried two nvidia geforce 2 cards with 64 meg each, and vista ran as smooth as silk, really surprised me, i would have left it at that but i was borrowing one the cards from my sons machine just to see if it would run. im not saying microsoft has got everything spot on, but vista is really growing on me fast, alot faster than xp did anyway.
  12. i must be really lucky, apart from the initial problems i mentioned above ive had no problems with any other hardware at all, i loaded on existing hardware Newt, my graphics card is a Radeon 9600 256meg ddr 400 MHz AGP x 8, HDTV Encoder, TwinView Architecture, Video Capture Interface Type: Video - 15 pin High-Density D-shell (VGA), Video - 4 pin mini-DIN (S-Video), Video - Coax, Video - RCA Composite Video, a nice, very cheap card. Gaffer, what software are you having problems with.
  13. Hi all would be interesting to see what you all think of the new OS, what are your experiences, heres mine so far.bear in mind ive only had a couple of hours a night over the last week to mess with it. Ive beed road testing windows vista ultimate, its a great OS i really like it, it seems light and not clunky at all, it all runs seamlessly, the aero them is great, it has a glass like effect on overlaping windows, looks very graphically intensive, but, it uses your graphics card to run the whole thing, so there is no degregation when your working, infact it uses less resourses than setting it back to windows classic, as that runs using your memory and cpu, it sounds strange but it work really well. when you minimise a window and mouse over it, you get a mini preview of that particular item, if you are watching a video it even shows this playing in the preview, you get the same effet using Alt and TAB, pressing the windows key and Tab will give you a roledex type effect of all open windows and folders, this looks great but a bit gimiky. one thing that alarmed me about vista was i noticed all my memory was being used, by the system even when i wasnt doing anything, so i did a bit of hunting and found out that vista does this on pupose, its a form of prefetch, it predicts(based on how you use your machine) what you are going to do, and stores this in memory, and helps load programes faster and that sort of thing, but as soon as you need the memory it gives it back, no questions, this combined with the new hard drive cache, is now called now called superfetch, and it really does seem to hold it all together well. there is also another type of cache, this is called Readyboost, this is a great one, it uses a usb memory stick as a super fast cache, you plug your usb stick in and windows does a check on it, and if its fast enough, it offers you the option to use the stick to speed up your system, a window will open and you can allocate some or all of the memory on the stick to be used, at the botoom is a windows recomended amount depending on the space available, but generally this should be 1-1.5 the amount of physical ram you have, this is a really great thing, ive cut down photoshop startup from 17 seconds to 4 seconds, word from 6 to 2 andso on. microsoft say if you have more than 2 gig of ram you wont see much benifit from this method, but time will tell searching is almost instant, using indexing, loads of other good stuff, but they are some of the big good bits. well thats the bits i do like, now for a few anoying bits, my soundcard(creative SB 5.1) dosent work using its own drivers, i have to install its own drivers, then install KX drivers over the top, thats not really vista`s fault, creative have stopped supporting the card(for vista anyway). The other thing is most definetly Microsofts fault, on xp, i could run two monitors using two drivers, i have an ATI agp card and an Nvidia pci card, no problem on xp, but, microsoft have decided that running two graphic drivers in vista causes to many compatabilty problems, luckily my ATI card also has a DVI out, so after trawling ebay i manages to find a DVI to RGB adapter, only cos a £3, but now im sharing 256 meg and a single gpu on two monitors, it seems to run fine but, its very anoying. but, i really do like vista, honest. more to follow i expect.
  14. great one this one, as soon as i saw the bubble machine i said to kerry thats in the top three, judys blossoms are lovely. i really liked westies egg, and kerry liked Mr Wiggys jacket. i was messing with white balance on my pics, the monkeys still have a slight blue tinge on there t-shirts, but my lizard, i was very happy with that, it was taken uder red flouro light, so i set the white balance using the pale stones on the floor of the vivarium, and it worked well, he has a blue tinge on his underside, but that is real, not a sign of red at all very happy.

  17. Hi Dave to be honest mate i dont know what happend to it, but i do have a rather large thingy, im not sure of the name, its a big tree (i will get told of for that i expect) and the flowers grow in a round ball, the flower is green, if you would like a cutting your more than welcome, weve had it for about 7 years now, i had it from a cutting, its flowering now, but in a week or so it will be in full bloom, will take a pic then. pm on its way.
  18. i can imagine you being so polite Ken, and you turning to Debbie as he walks out and saying "he is such a nonce" the thought just tickled me. i gave away a 9ft open palm a few weeks ago, (as it was getting way to large for us and our neighbours), to a somewhat distant relation to my wife kerry, he came to picked it up, after a lenthy conversation over the phone on how big it was, at nine feet the spread was over five ft and root ball was about the same, , car, fit, yes, ok, no problem, plenty of room in the garden, so off he trots, ..............an hour later i get a call, now i can only explain this in moron terms, it began like this "Your XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXX XXXX XXXXX tree(tree mind) XXX XXXXXX XXXXX XXX through XXX XXXXXXX XXXX kin front door. he lived in a mid terrace with no acces, i didnt know this, but i was getting all this over the phone , and hell, i know where i live and what i can get into/onto my property, and dont forget, this was a gift, i honestly couldnt belive this bloke(who i really didnt know, and was , i thought doing a bloody massive favour to, very expensive if he had to buy it ) was still, shouting at me over the phone, telling me it was my fault he couldnt get it thought his front door, and out the back to put in his efin efin efin efin efin RE...... im going to shout now CYCLING PILE AAAAAARRRGGGGGGEEEEE, im a worldy man, and im not amis to the odd shoker in life, but if there ever was a man that would anger me, this man would be the one whose chips i would gladly **** on. nice to see you keep your cool ken, its the only way.
  19. oh bugger, sorry just replied without reading everyones posts, oops.
  20. oh monkeys, im a whimp to ( and a girly thing), always use a cloth, that little crease in your index finger is only supposed to be skin deep and although josh`s method doesnt seem to have stopped him catching some pretty impresive fish, i wouldnt advise using the pencil method, the line will never sit on the reel correctly, it would seem the line is going on nice and even, but in actual fact the line will be twisting as it goes on, resulting in, at least bird nesting, and at worst weakened line, and plenty of snap offs. the folk who make line put the sticker on the spool, this is the way the line comes off, as long as this is facing you when you wind it onto your reel you wont go far wrong. Hi lyn
  21. will do steve, to tired tonight though, will have a go tomorrow night, cheers for the feedback.
  22. Hi Steve do you have photoshop installed, as it is a script for that program, if you dont have photoshop then this will be the problem.
  23. hope it works for you steve, i have changed it a bit so read the above post as i have edited it so its more usable(i hope) lolol. hope you find it usefull
  24. really sorry about that folks, ok all try this now, this will resize to 800x600 and save to C:\Documents and Settings, and give you full control over file name and save quality,(if you run it in step by step mode) if not it will be saved in at level 12 and have the same file name as the original.not saving as much time as before but still shaving a bit off, hopefully this one will work HERE! ive also edited the original post so that links work too. enjoy, and report back if you have time.
