  1. Yes, I'm still addicted to photographing everything in sight...try stopping me! Next NB trip will probably be the Millenium Link next year...moving a boat from the LL to the Lancaster..can't wait! Janet
  2. Give up AN? I don't think so! After all, who would listen to my rants if I didn't post on here? Janet
  3. Sad to say, but after a wonderful few years fishing, both coarse and fly, I'm now giving up...well, sort of...! My fly fishing has had to be curtailed because of an ongoing shoulder injury...I simply can't cast properly any more...all my fly fishing gear (rod, reels etc) has been given to someone who will appreciate and use it. No regrets there...I'm glad that someone will get some fun out of it. I had great fun and some great memories...who knows, one day, perhaps I can try again, but not at the moment. Coarse fishing is pretty much going to take a back seat now, apart from when I'm on my narrowboat trips. My local club lake isn't the place it was...I've gone from catching a fabulous selection of roach, rudd, perch, ide, bream, gudgeon etc to catching nothing but carp....single maggot on a size 20? Yep, I caught a 5lb carp....not just once, but time and time again. The first time I went there as a guest, I caught thirteen different species in a day...the last time I had nothing but carp...it's a lovely lake, but with the changes that are currently taking place, including removing lilies and clearing vegetation, it's becoming more and more a carp lake. I'm all in favour of the new pathway, giving access to more and more disabled members, but I also like the overgrown margins...I like the lilies...I do not want to sit by a perfectly manicured lake catching one more dozy carp after another... I've resigned my place on the committee and also my membership. This isn't the place I want to be any more... From now on I'll be sticking to fishing on my local river and on the canal when I'm boating. Early mornings with the mist rising off the water and a bit of bread flake...I'll almost guarantee I have a decent roach. Early evening as the sun is going down with a bit of lobworm on a size 12/14? I'll lay odds I'll get a nibble from a perch... I've had a fabulous few years here and have nothing but praise for everyone who's helped and guided me, but it isn't where I want to be any more. Janet
  4. I had a particularly memorable day a couple of years ago (and how I wish I could forget it!) I’d joined a local angling club, specifically so I could fish the pond at a local National Trust property. It’s a rather nice little place, and I was looking forward to it. When I arrived, as on many occasions since, I was the only angler there. I set up on what I thought was the best peg, and had a cracking day, landing lots of small roach and perch. Nothing major, but enough to keep me ticking over all day. Then I realised that I really needed to answer the call of nature….what was I to do? I couldn’t leave my gear to go down to the Hall to use the facilities there, as it was too long a walk and I didn’t want to return to find my gear gone…. I looked around, and found what looked like a good, discreet shelter….a large bush, away from the pond, and with a good panoramic view so that I could spot anyone approaching…..I looked around carefully, and there was nobody in the vicinity. Behind me were open fields, with a few grazing horses. Right, it was now or never! I reeled in, placed my rod on the rest and made a dash for it. Carefully checking that the area was clear, I proceeded to do what a woman has to do, especially when she’s necked two large flasks of tea! Ah, blessed relief! And then I heard it….the ominous sounds of someone approaching! Aaaargh! Seemingly out of nowhere, a group of Japanese ramblers appeared, trolling down the field behind me, camcorders and digital cameras in hand! Unfortunately, it was a bit like Mastermind – “I’ve started, so I’ll finish”…..I’m sure my rather ample posterior is now on some Japanese version of You Tube, much to my embarrassment! I didn’t know whether to hide or wave! Luckily the sun was shining, so I hope they got my best side…. Janet
  5. What dreadful, dreadful news. My thoughts are with you Newt. Janet x
  6. We're not that bad over the border John! All the best. Janet
  7. I'm currently on Firefox 6.0.2 and have no problems...much faster than it used to be. Janet
  8. Well I've totally lost all the enthusiasm I had for fishing, to the extent that I didn't bother to renew my rod licence at the beginning of the season...I did manage one day (with a daily rod licence bought on line) but it didn't really do anything for me... I really don't know what's up with me, but I just cant seem to summon up any enthusiasm, to the extent that I'm going to resign my Angling Club committee post at our Annual General Meeting next month and hopefully get someone more involved to take my place. It's not fair to the members if I haven't got the time or the inclination... It's been a pretty tough year personally with one thing and another, and fishing really has taken a back seat to my other activities and commitments...my best fishing buddy is shortly moving away from the area, which will leave me stuck for transport, so it seems the sensible option. I'm going away for a long holiday on the canal in October...hopefully by then I will have regained at least some interest.... I wouldn't say that I've given up angling, as it's been a passion for quite a while....I still love it, and remember all the fun times I've had...I just can't seem to get motivated at the moment. Janet
  9. I've only been there once, when I was accompanying some friends on the fly fishing lake, but I remember it being a very well run and well organised site. Beautifully scenic location, well run and with a well stocked shop. Hot brews always available, and the fishing cabins looked very tempting for an overnighter. Janet
  10. Their marketing worked then....? Janet

  13. Glad you're enjoying your new camera. The first image is the best...look forward to seeing some more! Janet
  14. Nice...it really stands out against the black background. Good to see the Photography forum isn't totally dead! Janet
  15. The canal through Skipton is indeed the Leeds and Liverpool Canal... As for fish? I caught a gudgeon just 1/2oz short of the British record at Gargrave a few years ago on one of my very first fishing trips. There are some of the largest shoals of roach I've ever encountered just past Skipton...there are also some HUGE bream there for the taking... I will try to find my notes regarding local clubs/fishing rights etc... Janet

That shot of the harbour is lovely John. Here's one from me.... EAGLE OWL [** EXPLORED **] by Janet Stansfield, on Flickr Nice to see Photo of the Day resurrected... Janet
  17. The SECOND time he's allowed this to happen to dogs in his care? I say throw the book at him - it really is inexcusable for this to happen again... Janet
  18. Some absolutely cracking still photos in that video. I'll leave it to others to comment on the hunting aspect...personally I found it distasteful, to say the least... Janet
  19. Dave, I'm with Tony on this...if I received an unsolicited CD it would either be turned into a drinks coaster or a bird scarer. However, if I'd received it after asking for information, then I'd probably play it, but only after Googling for any untoward comments regarding the supplier... You just can't be too careful! Janet
  20. Jeez...they could build their own island with that lot! Janet
  21. And we worry about the slight breeze we've had today? We don't know we're born, as my mum used to say... Janet
  22. It took me three years of blood, sweat and tears and constant letters and emails to convince them that I didn't have a TV...my, they are persistent! Of course I have access via my PC, but I never watch anything live...I'm constantly playing catch-up when someone sends me a link... I hope I'm staying within their rules! Janet
  23. Woo hooo! I've found my dream man...  Janet
