  1. Here's a link to ALL the photos... Photo competition There is some seriously skewed voting going on...perhaps if we all voted for our favourites then we could make the competition just that little bit fairer? Janet
  2. Nice photo Ben, but really, it's not exactly sporting, is it? I've won a few photo competitions, but I've never had to resort to begging for votes. Here's a link to ALL the photos... 3. Ooooh! That looks wet! Hope you stay safe Newt. Janet x
  4. Absolutely fabulous pictures John! Many congratulations on the new addition to the family. Welcome Joshua...a lovely name. Janet
  5. Not much chance here...full cloud cover as at half an hour ago.... Janet
  6. Mick, that post was from 2005... Perhaps you should post a new thread looking for further information? Good luck! Janet
  7. Anyone who pays that sort of price has more money than sense! It would be interesting to hear a report from the place to see if the price is justified. Janet
  8. Too young Ziggy...taken far too young. Anybody who bothers to listen beyond the first four minutes of that video will soon realise what a great talent has been taken.. It's very scary to realise that many of my musical heroes are now gone... Janet
  9. R.I.P Gary, and thank you for the music... Youtube Video -> Another true legend gone, but not forgotten... Janet
  10. I've used it to great effect whilst fishing on our canal holidays. It's simply unbeatable for roach...I use ordinary bread as loose feed, and magic bread on the hook. It remains there for cast after cast... I thought it was expensive at first, but for sheer convenience and effectiveness it's hard to beat. After a couple of years using it, I still have half a loaf left, so I'd consider it excellent value for money. Just make sure you use line or a cheese wire to cut it, otherwise it shatters into several pieces. It really does what it says, and stays on the hook. Janet
  11. I've managed way more than 8 maggots on a size 14... No need for gimmicks like maggot hooks. I fell for that, bought them and they are still sitting here unused... Janet
  12. Nothing like a bit of grave digging...that thread is from 2003! Janet
  13. “There are warning signs at all the main slipways going to the beach and dotted along the promenade" “They advise people to stay within 50 metres of the promenade.” Enough said? Sometimes people just have to take responsibility for their own actions... Janet
  14. No, it isn't just you... I found this offensive, sexist, insulting....you want me to carry on? At first glance, this is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, although as I said, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen an actual copy of the finished publication. Janet
  15. Cover shot of girls in bikinis and one in a nurse's outfit? Suzy Snatchpiece? Do you honestly expect any serious angler to even get beyond the front cover other than buying the first issue as a novelty? It is indeed brilliant fun - I write a column for a local newspaper about the fun and silly stuff that happens to a relatively new female angler which is well received. It is possible to get across the fun and camaraderie of angling without resorting to tackiness and semi-naked girls... I wish you well in your new venture and will try to keep an open mind until I see the first issue. Janet
  16. Excellent write up and a couple of great captures! Well done. Janet
  17. I don't see anything new there... My local river is just a few hundred yards away, at the end of my street, right in the middle of town. I walk along it each day and fish it when I can, sometimes on my way to work in the morning.... I've caught fish in many city centres whilst on our narrowboat canal holidays...Gas Street Basin in Birmingham is fabulous! There's always an angler waiting to be caught....! Janet
  18. Ooops! Almost missed this! Have a great day both of you. Janet
  19. Oooops! I've corrected it now... Janet
  20. Just a few of my favourites, but the ones I read over and over again... A Dream of Jewelled Fishes - Jon Aston Angling Vagabond...a glorious boyhood - Dave Park Up Against It - Martin James Fish, Fishing and the Meaning of Life - Jeremy Paxman The Magic Wheel - an anthology of fishing in literature - edited by David Profumo & Graham Swift Janet
  21. I keep notes and take loads of photos to record most sessions, even if I don't do very well. It's been especially good in the last few months when my club lake has been frozen over just looking back on them and anticipating the thaw to come.... Janet
  22. Emma, A shocking but salutary warning..thankfully you knew what to do and were able to get treatment asap. I really do wish you all the best for a speedy and full recovery. Janet
  23. Naughty! It said on the news report that the carp got away? It looked pretty dead to me...wouldn't it have put up some sort of a fight if it had still been alive? Janet
  24. You should try this Chesters... My friends sampled this at a local tasting event and loved it. Mind you, their samples were all just teeny tiny bits on cocktail sticks, but I trust their judgement. When I say teeny/tiny bits, I mean it. It wasn't just lumps of cheese, but just the tiniest scrapings... However, as we are all lovers of very strong cheeses, they liked what they sampled, so bought some, and kindly saved it until I went round for a long weekend so I could share the experience with them. We were really looking forward to it...dinner was over, the table was cleared and the wine was going down nicely when it was brought to the table with great ceremony...we really enjoy a good cheeseboard, and this was going to be the highlight of the evening... It looked the part, carefully wax packaged and labelled...knowing the very strong and flavoured cheeses we'd tried and loved in the past, I couldn't wait. The wax wrapping was carefully removed, and we each took a small portion as a taster....I really wish I'd had my camera set up to record the facial reactions! I can honestly say that it was the vilest, foulest and most obnoxious foodstuff I've ever come across! We all tried, but not one of us could face more than the tiniest morsel without grimacing. The open pack has since been in the garage for the last six months, double wrapped and it still stinks! I've never, ever found a cheese I couldn't eat, but this was a first for me. Janet
