  1. Just reinstalled the comp. Can someone plz give me a link to a shot calculator site to work out how much and which shot i need to sink the float plz. Thnx
  2. I'll give this a go tommorow.Nice an simple just how I like it:))
  3. The pond I fish is about 6ft all the way round with lillies and reed around most of it.The spot i fish is in a gap in the grass quite close into the bank.So instead of casting I more kind of plop the wait in:).There is no island in.I will try an post a pic tomorow. I use the polaris because I don't want to use a bite alarm or invest in a quiver tip so I thought polaris would just go with my carp rod nicely. Yep I think line bites knocks was what was happening. Anyhow once again advice is much needed on rig and anything else I should know.
  4. Hello I had a very frustrating days fishing today. The pond where I fish is notouriously hard for anyone to get a fish out of it even tho many carp can be seen on a nice day.Anyhow this is what happened today. I fitted my carp rod with a polaris float and set a sliding ledger rig with a 1/2 oz weight stopped on a rubber bead before a swivel.Attached to the swivel was my 8 IB braid hooklength and on the hook was sweetcorn. The day started promising with me getting big bites where the float would go under the water entirely only when I struck there was no fish or resistance at all.this happened all morning untill in the afternoon the bites stopped and I gave up. So I got the bites but just cannot get the fish.Is it my hooklength which was about 8 inch or should i fit the ledger to be fixed and not sliding altho someone told me that would not work with a polaris float. If possible I would really appreciate someone posting a rig an how it's setup with the lengths an all as I'm very new still. All help will be much appreciated thnx
  5. What rig do you guys think is best with this float.Fixed or sliding weight.Or feeder. I'm fishing in water 6 ft deep with carp around 12 IB in weight.I'm very new to this so if someone could actually recommend the best rig for me to use please and what kind of hook lengths an feeder lengths I should be using. Much appreciated thnx.
  6. Hi again. Thnx for the help.It soumds like I need a hole new setup. At current I have a carp rod with 12 IB mainline and 8 IB braid hooklength. This could explain my lack of luck in just about everywhere i go from ponds to lakes. I'm gonna invest in a light rod and line before I try the canal. Btw the canal I'll be fishing is in the small heath area of Birmingham.I think it's known as the watering hole. thnx for the advice I shall take it onboard.
  7. kk I'll just fish on the bottom when my polaris float arrives in the post:))Just so tempting to go on top when they just sitting there.I suppose the hungry fish would be at the bottom anyhow looking for food.
  8. Hello I have never fished a canal before but have the next few weeks free so want to give it a go. I was wondering how i should go about this.I have a carp rod and usually use floats but how should i fish a canal?Ledger or float?Pole is not an option I aint spendimg money on a new rod:). Also if it is float fished should i be on the bottom or just of the bottom.I always think that if my bait is on the bottom then my float wont go under if i get a bite but will just move. I'm very new to fishing at 28yrs old but am very keen and love going out trying even if I don't catch:)) thnx cya
  9. Hello I've spent the last 3 days down my local pond trying to catch carp on the surface. At times there must be 20 of em on top but they just will not take my bait which is expander pellets on a bait band with a controller float. But I had no luck and had to watch the carp just swim by my bait an take no notice. So my question is what are the best baits and how are they presented?
  10. btw I'm using a carp rod with 2.5 IB test curve and a 12 IB mainline
  11. Hello I am going to buy an polaris float. Can someone who is in the know please advice me what size weight and and float i should buy to suit where i'm fishing. I'm fishing in stillwater thats between 5ft and 10ft deep. The carp are anywhere between 10 IB and 20 IB. I have never fished this way before and I am wondering if i should be using the lightest weight i can get away with or will more weight help the hook set. Thnx in advance
  12. Ok then i'm gonna buy a bobbin an see how it all works. Yes like someone else said I don't want to use a bite alarm either I think it takes something away from the whole experience. Might just invest in a quiver tip rod maybe. Anyhow thanks for the help guys
  13. Yep I've just seen some bobbin indicators on an online shop.I was wondering if the baitrunner on y reel would do the same job when it makes the clicking noise as for the indicator to move the baitrunner would have to make a noise.Or will this not be sensitive enough? As regards to the float fishing I have had some luck with smaller fish but wanted to try something new to make a change:).
  14. Hi everyone I started fishing on and off about 6 mnths ago but have'nt had much luck with float fishing. I now want to try ledgering but i only have a 2 1/2 IB carp rod.I know how to set the rig up but i'm wondering without using a rod with a quiver tip will I be able to know when I have a bite? I'm fishing for some carp which are around 11/12 IB inb a local pond.So will I know if I got a bite in time or do I need a quiver tip rod? Thnx in advance
