Bit of help please guys? Following an op to my hand I'm having some serious problems with a loss of dexterity, so have been buying hooks-to-nylon recently. Unfortunately, way too many of them are failing in use - usually with a fish on the other end - at knots within the hooklength, that is, knots tied by the manufacturer - occasionally the hook knot, but more often at the knot on the loop. I'm as certain as I can be that the problem is not something that I'm doing, just knot failure at that specific point, the hooklength and main line being joined loop-to-loop, with the failure on the hooklength loop knot each time (NOT the loop-to-loop connection), and there are no shot at all on the hooklength either. These are products from a major manufacturer, so quality control should be good, but I've lost confidence, and now want to (try to!) tie some up myself. So: based on the following criteria, what would people suggest for the best knot? 1/ I want these tied manually, NOT using a hook tyer of any description. 2/ All hooks will be eyed 16s and 18s tied to something between 3.5lb and 5lb BS mono. 3/ I need a strong knot, as uncomplicated as possible to tie, yet preferably something that will result in a 'neat' knot, i.e. not the Palomar. Currently considering the 'knotless' knot, which would give me the option of adding a hair if I wanted ... and better solutions please?
