  1. Harris Lake, Marsh Farm Fishery, Nr Godalming. 1530 - 0930 Overcast and muggy becoming cooler am. (And DRY despite the forecasts for days beforehand forecasting rain!) 14 Tench; 7 over 4lb, best 3 - 6lb 2oz, 5lb 7oz, 5lb 5oz. 6 Crucians; 3lb 1oz, 2lb 13oz, 2lb 3oz*, 2lb 1oz*, 1lb 15oz, 1lb 10oz. 4 Roach - 3 over 1lb (!) best 1lb 6oz. 3 Rudd - all 10-12oz. 3rd time Paul and I have done a night here and this cracking session was following on from last season's successful experiment which also copied the same pattern of not a lot happening until it got dark and then steady action during the night. Though all the roach and rudd were caught within the first couple of hours of arriving; a rather unexpected and very pleasant 'Welcome to Marsh Farm'! The feeding switched was flicked around 2230 - and the fish came out in 'bursts' through out the night - often 2 or 3 in quick succession followed by up to an hour staring at a stationary float. There were some notable differences to previous trips - one was bait de jour. Last time out we eeked out a precious few prawns between the 2 of us as bait (they were meant to be Paul's lunch) - as that was all we could catch on - so this time we came armed with tonnes of them - so of course - I didn't get a bite to them - and Paul hardly any better. Nearly all my fish came to good old maggot (I had 4 tench on meat - the only exceptions). Fished float fishing the margins lift method (as per usual!) I think all of Paul's float caught fish also fell to maggot or meat - and he also had a lot of tench on corn - though these were caught ledgering out by the island (the cad!) Another curiosity was in the difference of catch returns - Paul ended with 10 tench and 10 crucians - but the vast majority of his tench (8 I think) fell to the ledger rod - his float rig caught mainly crucians - whereas my float approach - some 20m away in the next swim - using the same tactics (and bait) produced mainly tench. *These 2, 2lb crucians were shamelessly poached from Paul's swim. We were packing up and I was chatting to Paul in his peg and looked into the water to see a group of crucians right close to the bank in no more than a foot of water mopping up some bait that Paul had thrown away. Watching them, they would scoot in, feed for around 20 seconds and then leave - to return a minute later to repeat the process. Simply waiting for them to return and lower a bait in front of your chosen fish resulted in an instant take - 1st time I've ever 'stalked' crucians! Paul wasn't too amused though! All in all a great night's fishing - though the lack of any breakfast (the onsite tackle shop have stopped selling bacon butties ) was a bit of a let down. Plumby's stove will be packed for our next trip here! A couple of the roach... Crucians - my 3... Paul's biggest (2½) Tench - my 6 and a 5½ for Paul.
  2. Harris Lake, Marsh Farm - Godalming AS 1400 - 0930 Hot and sunny. Night was clear and felt quite cool by dawn with a mega heavy dew! Gorgeous night to be out fishing under the Perseids! 14 Tench; Biggest 3, 5lb 13oz, 4lb 10oz, 4lb 8oz. All the rest in the '3lb class' save 2 which were smaller. 7 Crucians - all over 1lb (though a couple by not much!) biggest 2lb 5oz. 2 roach, 1 rudd & a perch. A really lovely session which came to life at 2130 as it got dark - had hardly a touch in the previous 7 hours in the heat (hardly surprising!) Nearly all fish taken on Paul's lunch!!! Prawns - a handful of which he threw in a tupperware at the last minute before leaving home - but which eventually went to the fish! Paul had 13 tench - though nothing bigger than the 3lb brigade and 12 crucians with 3, 2lbers to 2lb 12oz - ALL being caught with said lunch (we cut them up into 4mm chunks). Certainly a bait we'll bring here again! Saw a lot of meteors - especially in the first part of the night before the moon rose. Sunrise. My Biggest Tench (of the session) Paul's best Crucian of the trip.
  3. Newbury AA Stillwater - Widmead 1930 - 0000 Warm overcast and muggy night - lovely shirt-sleeves evening though needed plenty of DEET - mozzies were in almost plague like swarms! Temp still 16ºC at midnight. 1 Crucian; 3lb 3oz. 1 Tench; 4lb 9oz. 2 carp 6lb 3oz & 6lb 13oz. 1 Rudd. Mission accomplished - 1st crucian of the summer and it's a real goodun! Things didn't start off quite so well - had the 'smaller' carp practically 1st cast on my float gear - took an age to get in and completely trashed the swim. So no bites afterwards for ages. Had switched to trying to get a few carp off the top and had not long put back the other one when a very large crucian rolled in my over where I'd baited earlier. A useful reminder to stop fannying about and get back to what I'd come here for. Swim really came alive in the first hour of darkness (22-2300) with fishing rolling and lots of bubbles. Crucian caught at around 2230 with the tench some 20 minutes later. My 4th biggest ever Crucian...
  4. Newbury AA Stillwater - Widmead 1700 - 0730 Cool and breezy (very) with short sharp showers to start. Overnight felt very chilly in the wind (temps were down to 10ºC) so the quilted, thermal one-piece suit made a rare appearance. I went from feeling chilled to toasty in a matter of minutes (though that might just have been struggling to get in it!) 1 Tench; 4lb 3oz. 2 Bream, 5lb 2oz & 4lb 3oz. 1 roach & 1 perch. A session that failed to live up to early promise as all my fish were caught in the first couple of hours. However that was it and I didn't get another bite after 2100 - just the odd bleep on the lead and bloddy crayfish worrying whatever bait I fished in the margins. Paul had a similar experience - catching 3, 6lb+ carp before it got dark - then nothing. Though he did get a bream just as I was packing up. Sausage du jour was Pork and Bramley Apple, accompanied with a couple of fried egg sandwiches and a mug of tea - lovely!
  5. Harris Lake - Marsh Farm, Godalming 1430 - 0930 Warm and with sunny spells. Quite breezy at times (as it ALWAYS is here - must be the windiest place in Surrey!) 16 Tench; 5 over 4lb, biggest 5lb 2oz, all the rest between 2½ - 3½lb, 11 Roach, 4 over 1lb - biggest 1lb 8oz! , 1 Perch, 1lb 9oz (on float fished meat at midnight), 6 Rudd. A cunning plan that was hatched a year ago. The day started with me popping over to the tackle shop for GAS exchange books (and key) which allowed us access beyond the normal Day Ticket restrictions. Just as well too, as I caught 15 of my tench during the hours of darkness. Paul had an even better day (or rather night) after a slow start - fewer tench than me but he did have crucians show up in the morning accounting for a dozen with around ½ of them over 2lb - me 2 swims down had not a hint of them - in fact for the last couple of hours I couldn't buy a bite on float fished maggot whilst Paul was getting crucians at a fish a chuck (well nearly! ). We both couldn't believe the size of the roach we were catching - Paul had 3 over a lb and like me had more which were close - he also had a 2lb perch - on ledgered corn/worm cocktail... A tench at dawn - pic of my 5lber. Pauls biggest Crucian (2lb 13oz) A tench heads for the lillies - my only 'daylight' tinca. A Surrey dawn Pleasing in appearance - even more pleasing in disappearance (H T Sheringham)
  6. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0700 - 1200 Mild/warm, still and overcast - 13ºC -> 17ºC. Neigh on perfick! 18 Perch: In order of capture: 2lb 14oz, 2lb 11oz, 2lb 8oz,*, 2lb 6oz, tiddler, ~, 2lb 6oz, 1lb 6oz, 3lb 3oz, 2lb 6oz (again! all different fish I think!), 1lb 7oz, 3lb 6oz, 3lb 2oz, 3lb 0oz, 3lb 14oz (equal PB!), 2lb 13oz, 1lb 3oz, tiddler, tiddler,~. !!! Nearly 40lb of perch ! 1 Tench*: 4lb 3oz. 2 Chub~; 1¼lb and a chublet. WOW - make hay while the sun shines. Or rather catch perch while its a dull overcast day!!! Never been so disappointed to catch a 4lb tench - for a couple of minutes I was convinced I was connected to a huge perch. I knew it wasn't a pike - never even entered my head that it wouldn't be a perch! Most fish caught by 1030 - and the run of 4, 3lbers in 4 casts was just after a couple of barges had come through the swim. Often the death knell for sport but not today! Had planned to do a lot of wandering and did fish one new swim on the way back to the car - did mean I didn't have a keepnet with me - which I have taken to bringing for perch sessions - putting them back 40/50yards upstream didn't seem to affect the swim, mind! First time I've ever had 5, 3lbers in a single session! Pics below are of the 3 biggest & the tinca...
  7. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley Complex 1600 - 2330 Warm clear night - temps still 14ºC when I packed up. 1 Tench 3lb 3oz. A doz+ perch & 2 rudd. This Indian Summer has persuaded me to have one last session here. The perch were really having the meat but switched off when it got dark. Tench on the stroke of 8 o'clock and 'bumped' another ½hr later - which proved to be the last bite of the session!
  8. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley Complex 1900 - 0200 Warm, muggy evening - despite clear skies - really lovely night to be out. Temps down to 13ºC when I left but felt MUCH warmer under the trees - this place has its own micro-climate it seems! 1 Bream; 8lb 4oz. 1 Tench; 3lb 0oz. An evening which started optimistically as there was quite a bit of activity when I arrived - a few fish bubbling and topping and the fry were getting hammered by preds - mainly perch I think. However dusk came and went without a hint of a bite on either rod and I was starting to make plans for an early night (and excuses for my 1st ever blank here) when at 2230 my margin rod was pulled in with a savagery which belied the size of the fish. Male tincas do punch above their weight and I was fortunate that I was able to grab the butt of the rod before I lost it! My renewed alertness was soon eroded as further bites came there none! I had planned to fish till around midnight and the church clock had struck 12 when I was starting to gather my things together for a 'slow pack up'! I was just about to reel in when I started getting liners. The float dithered and dipped for ages (well around ½ hour) before it suddenly disappeared and I was into that deadweight 'fight' that could only be a bream! Yet another 8lber - 4th of the summer (plus of course that 12lber back in July). Of course this was then a cue to fish on - but with coffee supplies exhausted and no further bites, 2 chimes on the church clock meant it was time for bed! ps - Saw 2 really spectacular meteors last night - one was a string of 'globules' burning up in the atmosphere the other a really long bright streak!
  9. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1930 - 0130 Overcast and very breezy - this lake is so sheltered it's unusual to feel any wind at all - not last night! Mild - min 15ºC. 1 Bream; 8lb. 1 Tench; 3lb 7oz. 2 rudd & a perch. Fished a new swim for the first time - at other end of the lake to usual haunts! Both fish caught just as it got completely dark - tench on meat at 2200 and the bream on maggot ½ hour later. No bites at all thereafter - though a few liners and fish topping which kept me bankside longer than I intended!!!
  10. Newbury AA stillwater - Widmead 0500 - 1000 Warm, overcast and sultry. 16ºC->21ºC 3 Tench; 3lb 10oz, 3lb 7oz, 1lb 11oz. 2 Carp; 9lb 14oz & 8lb 5oz. 7 Rudd. Dawn raid in the hope of another monster crucian - and whilst I had a big fish roll shortly after baiting the swim it was a case of nothing doing. Rudd were a nice size - upto 9-10oz, though in truth a bit of a pain as they kept giving crucian like bites on my lift float rigged meat! Carp off the top in the last hour - having thrown in freebies all morning!
  11. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 2100 - 0600 Warm, calm, overcast and muggy. 17ºC at Midnight and still 15º+ when I packed up - lovely evening to be out. 2 Tench; 5lb 5oz, 3lb 11oz. A couple of roach & perch. A very last minute decision to go - based on A, the weather forecast - lovely balmy evening. B, Jaq reminding me she was having a girls night out. And C, Paul having already planned an evening session here. Tuesday is one of my training nights - I coach athletics (stop sniggering at the back) - so it was well after 8pm before I'd thrown my gear in the car and found myself pootling toward Yateley. On arrival I was surprised to see 2 other anglers as well as Paul on the water (there had been 3) - which very much counts as busy! especially for a mid-week evening. The plan had been to fish with Paul - but the weed growth made that difficult so I dropped into the next swim - one I'd never fished before. However my hopes were high - I had a very good depth of water a rod length out and a nice hole in the weed I could find easily in the dark. Confidence was high. Alas it was misplaced! 3 hours later I'd had one bite - which I didn't even see as I'd nodded off!. Paul had to wait a while for any action too - but shortly before 2300 his float disappeared and a goodish tench buried itself into the weed. A huge ball of weed was then netted - Paul wasn't convinced the fish was even still on - but was gratified to discover a 5lb 12oz tinca in his net. Paul had to pack up just after midnight as he had work in the morning - something that I don't have to worry about at the moment. And has he had been getting more interest in his baits I moved into his swim and was casting out before he'd even left the car park! I too started to get some interest - mainly liners I think - but had a fish on the bank - the 3lber in under an hour of moving! The next fish was caught in somewhat bizarre circumstances - I had just cast out - and was edging the bait into position - and checking I wasn't hooked up on some weed when the 5lber snaffled the bait whilst it was still moving. Like Paul's 5lber this one buried itself in the weed - and I wasn't sure I still had a fish on until I examined the weedball in my landing net!! This fish was caught a little after 0200 - and was the last action I had. However there were fish rolling over my groundbait in the swim I'd vacated!!! Doh! Will definately be braver and give it that spot a full session next time.....
  12. Marsh Farm Fishery, Nr Goldalming (Harris Lake) 0730 - 1900 Cool, calm and overcast with light rain all afternoon from 1300. Max 16ºC 14 Tench; Biggest 3 - 6lb 2oz, 5lb 9oz & 4lb 9oz with the vast majority being around the 3¼lb mark (only 1 under 3lb). 4 Crucians; 2lb 3oz, 2lb 6oz, 2lb 10oz, 2lb 13oz. 1½doz 'bits' - mainly roach with a couple of rudd, perch and even a gudgeon! A very enjoyable day's angling - our 'annual' visit here postponed from June when we bottled it due to a poor weather forecast - a shrewd move given what we caught! Made a very nice change to fish this place in a flat calm - always been blowing a hoolie when we've come in the past. Paul had a very similar return - eventually. After a slow start, 2 swim moves - including a spell on Richardsons - he ended up with some nice fish in the last 3 hours - including a cracking crucian of 3lb 6oz - (equalling his PB for the 3rd time). I should point out though that Paul caught the vast majority of his fish on the method feeder - the cad - so of course they don't count!! I spent the whole time in the same swim on Harris - got off to a cracking start with the 6lb tinca and a 2lb cru in the first hour and thereafter caught steadily throughout the day - particularly in the afternoon after it started raining - the lower light levels appeared to bring them back on the feed after a bit of a lull late morning. All my fish caught float fishing in the margins - with 4mm or 6mm pellet. Most of Paul's fish fell to worm or worm/caster cocktail. Some Pics... My best tinca. 1st Crucian of the morning. My best Crucian of the day. Paul's 3lber. Yellow tench - caught by Paul.
  13. NAA Stillwater - Widmead 1500 - 0700 Overcast and breezy with light drizzle most of the night after a warm sunny afternoon. Min 15ºC - mild despite the breeze! 6 Carp - all commons - biggest 9lb 13oz, smallest 6lb 8oz. 1 Bream 4lb 8oz. 1 Tench 2lb 8oz. 2 Doz+ Roach and Rudd. It comes to something when the highlight of your fishing trip is breakfast!!! However the pork and bramley apple sausages, fried egg sandwiches and mugs of steaming fresh tea were much anticipated! The fishing again was slow - Paul and I were after tench and bream - but again were thankful for the occasional carp showing up to put a bend in the rod. And at least these were a little more respectable than last time. Shame, as it started so promisingly - Paul had a bream first cast (he wouldn't get another!) and I spent nearly 20 minutes in mid afternoon battling what we were convinced must be a 20 on my float rod - only for it to turn out to be a 7lb+ common hooked in the derriere - which as Paul was quick to point out doesn't count!!! Still at least the overnight rain wasn't as heavy as forecast - and I was prudently home and dry before the heavens opened. Paul who fished on to try and add to his tally of 5 carp and the bream wasn't quite so lucky but thanks to keeping an eye on the rain radar on his Blackberry missed the worst of it! Pic (ala Rusty ) of the sausages!
  14. Summer Pit, CEMEX Yateley Complex 1930 - 0545 Warm, overcast night temps didn't dip lower than 15ºC - lovely night to be out! 3 Tench; 5lb 12oz, 4lb 13oz, 3lb. 1 Pike 4lb*. 8 perch, 1 roach, 1 rudd. Slow, slow session. First tench around 2330 then a mini flurry of activity between 0200 - 0400 when I had the other 2 and also lost 2 more which threw the hook in the weed. All 3 on my margin rod - not a touch on the rod fishing further out. * The pike managed to get itself 'banked' 3 times - the 1st when it simply grabbed a perch and wouldn't let go - until it was in the net - perch released without a mark on it! The 2nd time it simply swam into the net as I netted the 5lb tench! And then it grabbed a tiny piece of meat I was reeling to pack up - the only time I actually hooked it! Everso everso skinny - poor thing!
  15. Summer Pit - Cemex Yateley 2030 - 0600 Still, balmy night with high cloud - temps 20ºC->13ºC but felt a lot milder under the trees! 3 Bream; 12lb 2oz - another PB , 8lb 7oz, 4lb 15oz. 2 Tench; 4lb 1oz, 3lb 3oz. 3 Perch & 2 Rudd. I'm utterly gobsmacked - 2 PBs and 1 = PB in a week! I said last weeks crucian would take some beating - this might just be the fish for me, that does! My first ever double figure bream - previous PB was 9lb7oz - so this has annihilated it!!! What's even sweeter I was tring to catch bream too!!! On our visit here on the opening day Paul and I suffered quite a few liners - I had a hunch that these were caused by bream - not tench as we might have supposed. So last night I just wanted to fish the dark hours and fish maggot on my lift method float rigs. During the day this is suicide as the bait gets massacred by the micro rudd and perch - but I guess these are feeding by sight as I didn't get bothered by them at all during the night (but did as soon as it got light again). First fish (the small tinca) just on 1100 - and thereafter bites were slow but steady - also bumped a couple - probably striking at liners. Big Bream caught at 0100 - the 8lber a couple of hours later as the first traces of dawn streaked the eastern sky in front of me. Pic shows a rather scarred and beat up looking slab - I wonder if this is spawning damage - no sign in the mouth that this has ever been caught! I cannot believe the amount of slime on my landing net when I packed up!
  16. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley Complex 0000 - 1000 Warm, still and overcast night (14ºC). Torrential rain after 0700 - and cooler. 5 Tench; 7lb 7oz, 5lb 10oz, 3X3lbers (3.13,3.12,3.03). 1 Bream 8lb 11oz, 2 perch. Nice socialable start to the season - permit not valid till midnight so arriving in the dark gave it that special feel of the 16th. Paul and I shared a swim - one we've both fished before - hence our name for it - 'Doubles'. Alas though Paul hardly had a bite - not helped by the fact he missed most of the feeding time from 0500 - 0700 as he had to go home to take wifey and daughter to work. Bites stopped after the rains came - and boy did they come. Spookily we were talking at the begining of the session of the potential for big bream in the water - I was relaying a story I'd heard last season of it producing doubles - though neither of us really believed it - as it hardly ever produces bream of any kind - so to get one of nearly 9lb - maybe just maybe. All fish caught on meat - except the perch which fell to maggot. 7lb tinca is my 3rd biggest ever and my best from this water. Pics to follow - though not alas of the bream - was so shocked to get it it went back before we realised we hadn't taken its portrait.... Summer Pit at Dawn... The Same an hour later.... My 7lb 7oz Tench..
  17. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1800 - 2315 A lovely warm evening under a hazy full moon. Temps 21º -> 16ºC. Shirt sleeves all evening and no mozzies! 2 Tench: 6lb 4oz, 3lb 13oz. The last Hurrah on this venue - bringing the curtain down on a splendid series of mid-week after work float fishing sessions. Won't be back here again until next june (unless we get an early October heatwave!). Fished a new swim - probably not the right time to be experimenting but it had to be done - and quite quickly had the 6lber on the bank, followed next cast by the smaller one. So just as 2 weeks ago - a brief feeding spell at dusk. Did have a few liners thereafter and fish topping in the swim - but nothing hittable. Both fish on float fished meat at a couple of rod lengths out.
  18. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1800 - 2330 Still and mainly overcast - another lovely evening under the trees! 21ºC -> 13ºC 3 Tench: 6lb 10oz, 4lb 8oz, 3lb 9oz. Water seemed very lifeless with no bubbling or fish topping and for over 2½hrs it looked like being my 1st blank of the season as I waited for a bite. However, it switched on briefly and had all 3 fish - starting with yet another 6½lb+er - in little over ¾hr from 2045. All fish on 6mm S-Pellet in the margins - not a bite all night further out and no interest at all in meat - the complete opposite from the last few sessions here!
  19. Pumphouse Lake - CEMEX Yateley 1815 - 0415 Lovely warm still night. Temp down to 9ºC in the car when I left but it must have been several degrees warmer in my little micro-climate under the trees - didn't need a coat or brolly all session. 1 Bream; 5lb 3oz, 1 Tench; 4lb 2oz, 1 roach, 1 perch. 5 hours of little activity, followed by 5 hours of no activity (followed by 5 hours sleep!). All fish caught by 2300 (could have had a lot more kip!) with no bites thereafter. Tench and bream on float-fished meat - tiddlers on maggot. All fish in the margins. Not a bleep on the lead all night (was fishing 14mm pellet).
  20. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1800 - 2330 Clear and breezey after heavy rain in previous 12hrs. Cooler than of late, down to 12ºC but felt even chillier in the breeze! 5 Tench; 6lb 13oz, 4lb 15oz, 4lb 11oz, 4lb 0oz, 3lb 4oz. 1 Crucian; 2lb 3oz. Well, I'm certainly getting my money's worth from this venue this season! Another lovely evening's float fishing - this time by the light of a full moon. No bites until it started to get properly dark (2030) when it suddenly switched on and I had 3 tench (including the biggest 2) in a little over 20 minutes. Next 3 fish came about 45 minutes apart. All fish on meat at around 2½ rod lengths out - no interest at all in the margins.
  21. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1815 - 2330 Warm, still and overcast. 16ºC when I packed up. 6 Tench: 7lb 2oz, 5lb 13oz, 4lb 7ozX2, 4lb 6oz, 3lb 6oz. Another cracking evening's float fishing for tincas. ALL fish on meat around 2 rod lengths out - not a touch in the margins. Biggest ever tench from this venue (beating the 7lb 0oz fish from 4 weeks ago!).
  22. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1900 - 0445 Balmy, overcast night - min 13ºC but felt warmer in still conditions - and sat under the trees - didn't need a coat or a brolly all session. 9 Tench: best 3, 5lb 11oz, 4lb 13oz, 4lb 12oz. All others between 3¼-4¼lb. 1 Roach. A busy evening - I had 5 fish including the biggest 2 by 2230 - followed by a quiet night. Kept at it, hoping for a crucian or two to put in an appearance but it was not to be. 5 fish on meat, 4 on 6mm pellet all float fished - lift method - great fun in the dark seeing the starlight lift and go flat. Dawn broke to a millpond surface with not a bubble to be seen - so whilst I had planned to fish longer, this sight plus the lack of bites in the previous 2 hours persuaded me that some kip followed by a late breakfast was the better option!!!
  23. NAA Stillwater, Widmead 1830 - 0800 Heavy evening showers giving way to clearing skies - feeling quite cool by dawn (12ºC) 3 Tench; 6lb 14oz, 3lb 6oz, 2lb. 3 Bream; 5lb 3oz, 4lb 5oz, 4lb 1oz. 4 Carp biggest 5lb 14oz. 4 roach & 4 perch. Slow but steady night - quite a lot of activity which didn't translate to bites! Paul had a much quieter session ( he did sleep through most of it!) with just a blank saving bream to show before he packed up at first light! * All carp (and biggest bream) on the feeder, others caught float fishing the margins. Biggest ever tench from this venue. *Paul has asked me to point out that his half hearted attempts at trying to catch something were due to his ignoring his wife's advice (she's a nurse by the way!) not to go fishing when he wasn't feeling very well. A night on a chilly, damp lake bank is probably not the best cure for a streaming summer cold!
  24. Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1800 - 2330 Warm and overcast. Temp 'down' to 18ºC when I left. 4 Tench: 6lb 1oz, 4lb 10oz, 3lb 6oz, 3lb 3oz. 1 Crucian 2lb 11oz. 1 rudd Can't have too much of a good thing when it comes to catching big crucians! (or tench for that matter!). 3 Tench on 6mm s-pellet in the margins, 1 tench and the crucian on meat about 1½ rod lengths out. Both caught in consecutive casts just as it got properly dark.

    5 July

Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley 1800 - 2330 Clearing skies - cooler than of late - down to 14ºC. 2 Tench; 7lb 0oz, 3lb 2oz. 1 Crucian 2lb 13oz. 1 Bream 2½lb. Well, I'm certainly on a roll at the moment! My biggest ever Tinca from this venue and my 2nd best ever Crucian from here. After a really barren few seasons on the Crucian front this is now my 3rd, 2½lb+ fish from 3rd different venue! Lots of bubbling and activity - but nothing but line bites until it got dark. First fish - the big tench on the stroke of 10pm (quite literally - I could hear the church clock chiming as the float went flat). The next 3 fish followed in the next hour culminating in the Crucian caught to the sound of the church clock striking 11pm! All fish on meat around 2 rod lengths out - no activity at all on the margin rod...
