Why not Carp??

Many people say that fishing soon will just be Carp fishing. So what? I think that would be excellent. I prefer to catch carp more than any other species. Except I like to catch the odd Tench or two. But otherwise I think that would be great. What do you think? :D  :P

Can't see it, there will always be the proper coarse fish in our rivers and lakes like roach, perch, tench, chub etc, etc. While ever they are there, anglers will fish for them. I know several anglers who specialise in other fish apart from carp.

Who exactly says that? What's to stop someone fishing a carp lake for roach or perch? These carp fanatics make me laugh. There's a growing number of big carp in our rivers, but they never go for those do they? Oh no. Much too difficult.

I stopped fishing for carp last year because there are too many ********s doing it. Chuck it out with a PVA bag and hope for the best most of them seem to be. I witnessed a bloke the other week on my local lake with a bait boat. Not unusual you think - but he could have walked around the lake to the spot where he was dumping his bait in and then used the thing to put his bait on 3 spots that were well within casting distance. Very skillfull I must say.

No you can keep it as far as I'm concerned. Leave them to their puddles while I'm off enjoying the peace and quiet of the riverbank.

I'm with Bulster and Peter Waller - at least while they're camped out in their camouflage gear in the wild jungles of the Home Counties at least they are leaving our beautiful rivers alone. Pike any day of the week. No competition.

Nathan,

I assume you are trying to wind people up ? :P

Have you never seriously tried to catch finicky Roach, Chub that take all baits except yours, Perch that attack worms with relish until yours makes a slightly louder splash than the freevies and scarper. The pleasure I take in catching a fish such as this means more to me than any 30lb Carp caught on standard tackle with a standard rig on a standard Carp pool in stand town, standardshire. Determination, patience, trial and error, minor tweaks to tackle, refining the shotting pattern - all these make the capture of the prize something special .... because I have worked out (sometimes days later !) what I have done wrong. With Carp pools, this is not the case ... something will generally take a boilie, paste or lump of meat if you lob it into the lake.

Whilst I do Carp fish from time to time (usually to repair dented confidence !) I am more and more finding this inadequate in terms of the satisfaction I get.

Dont get me wrong ... a Carp from a lake not stuffed full of identikit makes and models from "Carp R Us" is a genuine thrill ... I once caught a 4lb Common from a lake that I believed was Tench, Bream Roach and Perch only. I was very pleased !

If Carp is your thing, enjoy .... but don't forget the fun available elsewhere :D

As with a lot of things people are obsessed with how big things and not what is their true value. enjoy fishing not try to just keep going for a big one all the time, and try something new from time to time. this is my motto.

take a look at my blog

Thanks Jon, it is nice when someone actually allows me to enjoy my chosen type of fishing.

There is such a load of bullshit written on these forums about carp anglers and hoew easy it is..."just chuck a boily out and some carp will pick it up"

Perhaps you should try the lakes and pits that I and hundreds of other dedicated carpers fish every week....BLANKING IS THE NORM for most...not because they are crap anglers but because catching big carp regularly is difficult.

So just give it a rest will you all,
