The first coarse fish on a huge Tonkin Cane rod and a tiny wooden centrepin must have been a gudgeon on the Grand Union Canal at Croxley Green just south of Waford when I was around 6 or 7 years old.

My First Game fish was a brown trout from a stream at the bottom of the hill where I lived in Helston Cornwall (when I was based at RNAS Culdrose), caught by drifting half a lob worm down the current with a couple of dust shot on the line.

Happiness is Fish shaped (it used to be woman shaped but the wife is getting on a bit now)

I'm really surprised that so few people have answered carp (just three at time of writing) when so much of the fishing in the UK these days is for carp. I wonder whether this is a reflection of the age of those who have answered their survey (ie, old enough to have grown up in a time when carp were still a bit out of the ordinary for many anglers) or whether there are other factors at work?
