How far do you travel for your fishing?

I think you're right fenboy.

Although I'm a Specialist Anglers Alliance memeber, I'm not a "Specialist" in any particular species. In fact I think the idea of fishing for one particular species, in preference to others, is a bit boring.

If I was to "Specialise" in any particular field of angling, I'd say I concentrated in catching the bigger fish of ANY species, present in ANY water I fished. Sadly (or happilly) I'm often defeated for long periods, which keeps me going.

Steve, thanks and I also hope we'll bump into each other soon. Look out for "I'd be a Fool, the Return".

I have the local Staff/Worc cut just 1 min away also Brum/Worc, or the Severn nearest 10 mins away can go upstream or downstream to any extent, the Teme 30 mins away, various pools close at hand that I rarely fish, but I fish the Wark's Avon most of the time which is usually a 60/80 mile round trip.

Dont really know how to answer this one!Travelling distances for me are a bit of a needs must thing.I am more than happy enough to fish my local Brick pit (less than 800m away)or drive to Spain! Some have mentioned less time spent driving more time spent fishing.A good example of my outlook to this one is that if I want to bag up on Barbell I would rather drive the extra hour to the Severn rather than go to the Kennet, working on the principle that for a better 10hours+ fishing an extra hours drive is worthwhile. Some years my "regular" water has been over 800 miles away and in others I have been literally living on it.

As for cicuit waters, the only times I have realy travelled regularly to these has been in the case of the pike fishing on trout reservoirs.

Steve Burke has summed up living in this part of the country well.Superb big fish fishing but a bit lacking on good river fishing.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

In reply to this one I travel around 100 mile round trip to fish for pike (and thats the nearest loch that I have found) There are plenty of trout lochs for me very local if I want to fish with fly but its not often that I do. Hopefully in May I am moving from the notheast of Scotland to the Sleaford area so hopefully there will be a few local waters and rivers to fish.

20 mins tops for rivers (in the motor)

2 mins for the local lake (walking)

But I only fish for 4hrs if I am lucky in summer (back home for breakfast jobs)

I am very lucky in that I am very close to the numerous MKAA venues and also only 8 miles from the carp syndicate lake I belong to. (Which incidently I seem to be the only person piking on during the winter months.)

Its 485 miles each way to the river in the Highlands my wife and I have season rods on.

I have done the Ebro in Spain, France and driven to germany for trout/grayling.

Furtherest distance from home I have fished so far is canaries when away with my wife. Like another poster my wife and i have travel fly and lure rods which go everywhere, including when I am travelling on business, which sadly is all too often. :(

But May 2005 I am booked for Peru, Amazon and Andies. Going on my own for that one. :D

I too I very lucky in that my house virtually backs onto the Ribble....so it's about a fifty yard walk :D:D

ajp:

I'm 5 miles from the Royalty and it's about two more to Throop.

You lucky lucky person. I'm not jealous. Honest. :(

My nearest river is 3 minutes away from my front door, and I've got two other good 'uns within 10-25 minutes. Not the Royalty, nor Clay Pool, but the next best thing IMO: the Test, the Itchen, and the Hamble.

Steve burke I am 100% behind you. I have a local puddle which is known for big carp in a reasonably small water. I fish for big Roach (my best just under 2lb) and Crucians. Boy do I get some funny looks!
