As you know, I've not read the book, but it certainly sounds like the same place.

 

Having said that, it's definitely not the same water as that seen in the footage.

I've never seen Barnes lake although I think I know where it is....

 

Smiths pool on the Linear complex used to do some very big rudd which is very close to some of the lakes already mentioned....
