Elton,

As Peter M said I dream of tench like that. You are fortunate to have a place like that to fish, it is getting harder to find good tench these days because of the poularity of carp.

One small point, you probably know more about tench fishing than i do but I have always found that if a tench gets into the lillies all you have to do is put on a good bit of side strain and wait, eventually they come out.

Hi Ian,

I tried a bit of sidestrain. Then I set the baitrunner to low, slackened off the line and left it 5 minutes.

Alas, I think it had already shed the hook :(

That water, believe it or not, is a club water that is geared up for silver-fish match fishing.

A few people on here will recognise it, Mr. Nice for one. Ironically, as I was fishing, I flicked through the new club book.....

They give out prizes for the largest of each species caught in a match and last year's biggest tench was 6lb 4oz, which indicates to me that not many target them.

A few guys there fish for them, as me and Nic have chatted to them. However, it's mostly match anglers, which suits me. Yesterday, for example, we started at 4:30am. I don't think we saw anyone else until 9am! By the time we were ready to go at noon, a few more were arriving! Suits me :)

I really like that water. It's a real 'flagship' water in appearance and, from what I've seen, quality of fish. The whole club ticket is £60 a year, so I'll get my money's worth :)

There are some rules that I don't like too much, but I'm just a paying punter and will live with it :)

Tight lines,

Elton

Great trio of Tench well done.

I did not realise Julian was Big Kipper baits i have had boilies from him good products.

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

You did alot better than me on Sunday morning then. Great stuff. :)

After targetting bream in the evenings and not having a touch, on Sunday I thought I'd just use the pole and go for roach/skimmers.

I started about 0530 and was catching steadily then about 0830 hooked a decent slab. I was only using 4 elastic and a 1.5lb hooklength so played it for about 15 mins.

I got it to the surface on the far side of the river but couldn't drag it across as the laccy was bottomed out. It did a couple of rolls and lost the hook. :(

Out again in a minute to hopefully catch some lids. I'm not doing too well so far this season.

Howard.
