John wilson specialist avons normally come out tops on this subject.

The old and new versions must be masterlines best selling products.

I use a Drennan super specialist which is a great tool.

I have landed a very angry 18lb ghost carp on 8lb mono with ease in a snaggy swim using it.

I like to use it for roving sessions as I can fish a medium/heavy float rig, ledger, swing tip, quiver tip, freeline and even use light lures with it.

Sounds good, but why is such a versatile tool called a "specialist" rod?

Specialist is just another brand name from drennan, super specialist hooks / line etc.

The rod is really an Avon type rod designed to do more than one type of fishing for specimen sized fish.

The point I was making Rudd, is that these are multi-purpose rods - so "specialist" is a misnomer.

A bit like "organic" foods - the local supermarket even sells "organic" rock salt.

Ahh.. the power of advertising....
