my daughter(Caitlin age 10) had her first bass today 2lb 7oz

thats one more than I've ever caught only her second time out (first was a young pollack that obviously went back)

went out to a mark south of Portpatrick (Botany Bay) rough and miserable weather

caught on sandeel and mackrel on a float!!!!

She has yet to blank!!!!!!!!!!!

Her face was a picture

Any good recipies as she is keen to cook it?

well done on catching one. least youve been out and tried. recommend you take her along all the time that way you'll know whether its a fish less beach or not :)

i had a few at the weekend as well and they were all stuffed with small fish and sandeels.

kept a couple of the smaller ones for the table.

wrapped in tinfoil. clean them thoroughly, leave head on. slices of lemon in the cavitiy. a splash of white wine. wrap them and bake in oven. moderate oven for 40 mins depending on size.

pull it out after that and check. if its not done put it back for another 10.

Dale

thanks for the recipie will try that with her

I couldn't handle being outfished every time by her

I tend to fish in some more extreme/ tricky access places

Her brother blanked for the first time yesterday

I didn't fish just for the kids yesterday

They were soaked but happy :):):):)

thurso,

all the fish were taken on lugworm. they seem to turn their noses up at peeler crab at this time of the year.

all the fish were in good nick, really meaty. must be due to sod of to warmer climes very soon. hope to get another wee session before they go as i had a near 6lb fish on sat. a shore pb for me.

tack4

my mate swears by filleting them and shallow frying them in butter after dusting them in flour.

no matter how crap you think the fishing and weather is kids seem to love it.

maybe we could all learn something from that.
