circuit breakers (trip switches)

The Flying Tench

Recommended Posts

I suspect that the breaker is an OLDER and more sensitive type possibly a 30Ma trip sensing? I had exactly the same bother and found a 100Ma trip which did NOT trip with the lights blowing!

But yes the easy way around this is to fit a supplementary fuse and so change this from an MCB to an old rewireable fuse. But a bit major, like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut! Or simply try changing the trip itself as it may be it is a BIT more sensitive than normal. I have seen this before!!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

"green" what the hecks green about compact flouro bulbs

hasnt the old girl got a walking stick ?

There was a debate on radio 4 this morning about low energy vs incandescent, some old woolie mammoth was arguing the point that why should he toe the line and that he couldn't give a toss about global warming, and even doubted global warming, and even if there is global warming then it was nothing to do with him....you know the sort ...don't you

hmmm lets see it takes many many times the energy to produce these bulbs (remember on top the chemicals used in the electronic components and their shipping from china) wheres bulbs use just 4 materials (solders used in both as is glass)

then drop one and see what happens when mercury comes out (300 times more than america considers safe) ,you then have to put it in two plastic bags ,pick up all the bits with sticky tae then cllean up with a damp cloth (putting all that in in the bags as well ) and take it to a recycling center for disposal ,you can bet your life this waste will be to difficult to be untangled by machine and to dangerous for humans so it will go in landfill anyway, old fashioned bulbs just go in the bin  you cant put them in your recycling boxes nor officially in your bin if you do its putting mercury and other chemicals in landfill ,not so green

so what are you saving? the electricity you dont use but thats produced anyway just in case you did so bar money your saving nothing "green" what so ever.

i have several fittings these bulbs wont fit do i chuck this equiptment away in landfill ,it gets worse .theres nothing as stupid as someone that takes things up without looking behind the scenes.

if all old fashioned filament bulbs (that is a EU promise)are got rid off half the laser printers will be obselete along with laminators ,chuck in a few streetlamps stadium lamps and all the other eqiptment that cant use these tubes and that landfill is going to be chock full ,just bcause someone says they are "green" ...idiot

the only green thing people can do is not use electric or gas ,wood or coal and oil at all and live in a cave something very few (including myself) will do .being "green" is impossible in everyday life and no bulb on earth can make a difference ,probably the amount of hot air and advert materials over these tubes have produced more CO2 than keeping the old bulbs because bulbs dont produce CO2 in use the power stations do !

we have them not because wre green but they were free ,one also interferes with our telly remote something that bulbs dont do ,we can turn the telly over with the light off but no when its on purely because of the radiation put out by these tubes

Often these MCB's trip when new 'green' lighting fails, it's to do with the fact they often short as they blow rather than go open circuit.

If the fittings and wiring are ok it may be the circuit is overloaded.

There are 'powered' MCB's about - these have little servo motor's in 'em and allow you to operate the larger MCB with a small low volt and safe switch mounted at low level. A Pro sparky will be able to do them, also the help the aged type charity's etc have info on these and simlar.

If they are able many use a stick? - that's what I do, ladders - blimy, you not heard of working at heights regs;)

A few helpful facts for you...

The difference on average is a saving of about £9 per lamp per year...do the maths

The incandescent lamp is so inefficient that 90% of its energy is heat.

If you are concerned about disposal of the 'green' lamps , take them back to the retailer...they send them for authorised disposal.

Reduced Co2 levels and the chance to impress your neighbours as to a someone who not only is Prudent but also cares about Environment too.

Pleased to help :D

Incidentally, I for one don't buy this "energy saving" nonsense. If I replace a 60W incandescent bulb with an 11W HED lamp all that happens is my gas central heating has to replace the extra 49W of heat the bulb would have provided!

..and in the summer, you can just turn on the air con to get rid of the extra 49w of heat.
