Did you take a temperature reading? Lowest water temp I've caught barbel at was 41ºF - during a cold snap in Dec 07. WT on the Kennet this weekend just gone was down at 39ºF....

What area do you live in barney ? Sounds like you have some very obliging fish round your neck of the woods. It's warmed up here a few degress since the weekend so all being well I'm gonna have a couple of hours after the Barbs myself tomorrow. Just curious what you are tempting them on ?

WT of 41.7ºF is the lowest i know ive had a barbel (there has been 1 or 2 around that temp But ive not taken the temp) and i was chub fishing with corn at the time. As a general rule i dont bother barbeling unless the temp is at least 44ºF and preferably rising at that.

Ive not been down the river Ian, but i would fancy it for a fish tomorrow. Best of luck.

PS Happy Birthday Chris.

I've just been shoppin and got some cheese, "mexicana chedder with mixed peppers", I've squashed a chunk with a chunk of butter and some bread, mashed it all together into a paste and it does smell qiute strong so I'll give that a go tomorrow. Brian if your not workin and you fancy it give me a shout.
