Roach Location

Severn Wolf

Recommended Posts

I reckon I`ve bumped into a brilliant stretch of the Severn for big roach. Ironbridge is known and fished but this stretch is ignored. I was chatting to the secretary and asked him about the potential for roach, he just stared back with a vacant look and said `its barbel water`

Now, I`ve fished for roach on the Severn quite a few times but always in noted areas. The two main ones I fish are like chalk and cheese, one is a steady slowish run close in, the other a waggler job in a pacey mid river spot.

What sort of current do I need to look for to cut down on swim choice? Theres two and a half miles of river to go at with everything from really fast rips to deep holes, a few hundred yards of featureless water to winding sections where the flow gets pushed all over the place.

Any advice to help cut down the likely areas?????

Oh, the bottom is mainly rocks of various sizes...

Mate,

Im no expert, in fact, I wouldnt even qualify for raw beginner, but if you look on http://www.fishooked.co.uk/taylorscut.asp there is some good info in the roach article.

I also recall reading somewhere that roach, big roach like the steady glides... good job you're not on lower, the giant steady glide LOL
