Old Rod

Can anyone help with this email that I just received?:

 

"I wonder if you could help me i've just been given an old rod and wondered if you had any idea how much it is worth if not the email address of somebody who might it's a ALLCOCK SAPPER split cane 3 piece 9ft fly rod with a winding reel seat in its original cloth bag number 636471 both in excellent condition many thanks."

I now risk seriously offending somebody!

The Alcock Sapper was a 9' wet fly actined rod ie it was a slow actioned split cane rod of indifferent quality it was not an expensive rod in it's day and time has not changed that..

I recently gave one away for a friend to practise his rebuilding skills on.

They are normally found in bundles sold for decorating the interiors of pubs.

If it's in first class condition you might drop lucky and get between £10-£30 for it.
