Fly rod choice

This is really for Dacer, and applies to his question in another post.

If you decide to take lessons from a professional, which is the best course of action in any event, then do not buy a rod until you have had the lessons.

Any good professional will have a range of rods available for you to try, and will be able to advise you on the action you require for your particular purpose.

Price is not the main criteria when buying a fly rod. You want a rod with the right action for your intended purpose, and which also suits you.

Before you have had any lessons, you have no way of knowing any of this, and many people end up buying something entirely unsuitable as a result.

Take the lessons first, and then buy the rod.
