Sometimes it seems like a weary weary life,

not knowing where to turn, in trouble and in strife,

arguments and problems, and awful things run rife,

it´s a good job there´s still fishing.

Take your rod and reel, and head straight out the door,

the walls are closing in, you can´t take it anymore,

your spirit needs renewing, as oftentimes before,

and you know the place to do it.

Time stands still, and yet rushes by so fast,

before you even realise, you are having your last cast,

packing up your gear, and heading home at last,

but feeling somehow better.

The world is still revolving, and the problems still exist,

and simply going fishing, will not cause them to desist,

but priorities have found, their correct place on the list,

and seem not quite so daunting.

Fond memories may take you , back to that fishing day,

when you are sitting wondering, how all the bills to pay,

that happy reminiscence, will help you on your way,

and curiously, you manage.

Fortune may be fickle, and luck may pass you by,

but fishing is a constant, until the day you die,

at least on this happy circumstance, you always can rely,

some are much less fortunate.

Cease then your lamenting, at capricious whims of fate,

fishing gives you pleasure, even food upon your plate,

without at least this solace, you´ld be in an awful state,

So stop your useless wishing.

When you meet a brother angler, be pleasant and polite,

he fishes just as you do, to obtain a brief respite,

who knows what he may suffer, perhaps an awful plight,

this, one should remember.

When looking back on life, the good times and the bad,

how often we remember, the fishing that we had,

without this for many, the memories might be sad,

and you might be among them.

Hope springs eternal, some wise man once said,

perhaps he was an angler? a fisher born and bred,

he is still remembered, although now long since dead,

who could hope for better?

Power and glory, possessions, wealth, and might,

may not calm your soul, or comfort you at night,

but thinking on your fishing, may well do this despite,

all your weariness, and worry.

When at last you lay your rod down, to take your final sleep,

such memories may bring comfort, in the dark and lonely deep,

gold and jewels are quite useless, for these you may not keep,

perhaps one may keep remembrance?
