Pronation !!!

Discussing casting faults on a list I subscribe to, one of the guys made a huge fuss about "pronation". Many of us had never even heard of it, never mind known that it was a casting fault!

 

I fear he got a little uptight at my joking reply!

 

Here it is, judge for yourselves

 

My first cast with the rod was good, and then I deteriorated,

a friend told me to my dismay, that my hands were all pronated,

I built another rod then, this problem having been defined,

and now I cast all day with ease, the rod at last is spined.

 

Now some may think that´s overkill, when really all the gist,

to cast quite well with any rod, just do not bend your wrist,

if you hold your wrist quite still, no one will cast aspersion

when it don't flex, then it wont tire, no need for such exertion!

 

If you rotate when you cast a line, your casting may indeed devolve,

your accuracy may suffer too, when you with every cast revolve!

Use your shoulder, and your biceps, when you essay a cast,

and you will find you cast all day, and have no pain at last.

 

Furthermore with such a style, you will cast with strength and skill,

accuracy and distance will improve, and far more fish you´ll kill

It is not difficult at all to cast, in fact one may do it with a stick

special rods to tune out faults,is not the most appropriate casting trick.

 

Now while I am aware that some thoughts on casting may well vary,

when told that building special rods will work, I tend to become wary,

anyone can learn to cast, with a little thought and preparation,

even those, who like myself, don't know s*** about pronation.

 

You will soon know when your castings bad, and when you´ve had enough,

pronation may indeed set in, or even worse a strained rotator cuff,

best not to believe then all you hear that factory rods don´t work,

the most common fault when casting, may just be too much jerk.

 

Try to keep it smooth and flowing, and strive not at first for distance,

and you can then use any rod or line, with practice and persistence,

Take a lesson from a pro, and follow his instructions to the letter,

and practice what he shows you, and you will then cast better.

 

If you wish to build a special rod, then of course by all means do so,

but if you want to cast like Kreh, or sing just like Caruso,

then practice all the time, to gain control and skill, or perfect intonation

good casters, and most singers do the same, although they never heard the word "pronation!".
