braided loops

I've been fly fishing about a year and use braided loops. I used to get a bit frustrated when I had just put on a loop only to pull it off again when I wound the line back onto the reel . I don't know if i'm missing the point or defeating the object but I found a tiny spot of super glue just before you pull the sleeve over does the trick.

This converstaion has been a great help to me. I still use the needle knot but have often considered whether to go over to braided loops. All I can say is that I've never lost a fish due to a needle knot coming undone / detatched from my flyline - 'nuff said!

Kevo, the argument I've been given is that superglue will stiffen the flyline causing a hinge-stress point, eventually weakening the line. I don't know how significant this weakening is but I'd advise checking the loop each time to see if any cracks are forming.

Thanks for the explaination it does make sense. Also I must admit one thing did puzzle me a bit was the fact that although the manufacturers, and a number of well known anglers, advocate a braided loop they also reckon that you req the butt end of the leader to be 60% of the tip of the fly line in order to get the ness turn-over. so in your opinion how does the limp braided loop affect casting?

If I could cast for toffee I would venture an opinion

However from a purely mechanical point of view when these things are stretched they are not as floppy (technical jargon there!) as when they are compressed so it probably wouldn't be a problem...I think?

Derwentbob,

I can't cast for toffee either, but where casting for fish are concerened? Can't cast for them either. Anyway I'll keep going with the braided loops until one fails, when, or if one does I'll let you know, especially if its on that fish of a lifetime.

Just another point, some of the lines I have already have loops attached to both ends(Climax made by Cortland) I used one many times last year with no probs. Anyone had experience with these? Not the Climax the line :)
