Not a knife for cutting or lopping, i'm going to guess it's something to do with assisting the filling hose for steam trains. It's old of course.

Fred if you can wait untill tomorow I will show the picture to my mate he was a Train driver in Melbourne and one of the last to be trained on steam Locos I will ask him.

I only took a stab that it was to do with the railway, i might be wrong. Allright then Chris, get your mate to confirm i'm right. :icecream:

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

I thought it might be some kind of hedging knife, I am fairly certain it's not a flensing knife. I have whaling in my family history and have seen all sorts of flensing knifes and this tool doesn't resemble any that I have seen but I could be wrong on that score and none of the whaling generation are still alive so I can't ask them.

 

Is it cast or forged, it LOOKS like it has been cast, if it has I would think that would rule out it being a blade, since cast iron is brittle, what are the numbers or letters on the item? I can't quite read them from the photograph.

 

I suspect the railway connection may be a red herring, where's Vagabond when you need him.
