Fly Snaps!

Recommended Posts

My fishing group and I use Fas Snaps (small) on the end of our leaders. I have been using them for a number of years now. I just received one hundred of them in the mail a couple of days ago. It's not that I break off many but I was concerned about the manufacturer may stop making them. I should have enough now to last me many years to come.

I like them because the fly moves naturally and I can change my fly in a split second, without shortening my leader.

Do you use them in Britain?

Hi Jake,

I've tried the ones marketed by Mustad over here in the past, but, as daft as it sounds I didn't find it particularly easy to change over flies when using them. I've long since reverted to tying them on again.

The point about the movement of the fly was what first caused me to try them out.

Regards

Paul

I believe Partridge market these now. I use them for light spinning with lures like jigs.

Hi kids! I use the "No-Knot Fas Snap" which are made in the USA. They are silver/chrome in colour and are made of stainless steel. The smallest of the lot can be used for size 8 down to size 16 flies. I use the Palomar knot to fasten the leader (5X) to the snaps. I have not had a break off at that connection, for as long as I can remember. I should point out that I favour them for wet/nymphs, as opposed to dries. Because of the free movement of the pattern, the fly sometimes will get wrapped around the base of the leader. It happens so infrequently, it really isn't a hugh concern.
