tackle set up

I am a complete beginner at fly fishing so hope

you will forgive my ignorance. Can anyone advise

me as to how to set up my tackle and what i need.

The way i see it is that you have backing line

then some fly line, then a length of leader line

then the fly. Is this correct. If not can you

tell me what to do and how best to tie them

together and what knots to use. thanking you

in anticipation of an answer. ??????

You are nearly there.

Best to use a shop-bought tapered leader (when more experienced you can make up your own) then about two feet of tippet between leader and fly.

What species and what size are the fish you are going for ? What sort of water do you intend to fish?

The answers to these questions will give us a better idea as to BS of tippet, type of fly-line needed etc etc.

Now knots :-

Backing to reel - Arbour knot

Flyline to backing - Albright knot

Leader to flyline - Needle knot (avoid expensive braided loop systems like the plague - do a search for past threads on this subject - don't let a tackle salesman talk you into braided loops)

Tippet to leader - four turn water knot.

Fly to tippet - turle, double turle or grinner

A search will bring up advice on any of these knots you are unfamiliar with.
