tie me a fly

Guys

I'm looking for someone to tie up a couple of prototype lures. They are to be built on very strong large hooks and are to mimic that wonerful nautural seen on a lot of lakes this time of year.

The chum mixer :)

Anyone up for the challenge?

A chunk of cork on a size 8 or 6 seems to work if carp are feeding on mixers. I keep my cork "flies" in the same plastic box as the mixers, so they pick up a bit of "chum" odour. That's probably against dry fly rules

Or do you expect the fly to be made of silk, fur and fevvers ?

I was thinking more along the lines of a soft dear hair could hide the hook somewhat. I fish waters that are low stocked and generally you don't get the fish competing for floaters. Cork, plastic have all been shown to be very innefective.

The lake I fish is full of rudd, and I mean full. ANy conventional bait is destroyed in seconds. Bread crust is the worst. It will stay on the hook for aproximateley 3 seconds :)

I've used the artificial stuff (fake mixers/bread) and seem to get a very poor hook up ratio. I reckon something that is softer, like a deer hair immitation will be more acceptable to the fish and alow better hookups.

Cheers for the idea ross, I'm a carp angler who's only just started doing a bit of fluff flinging (that's what gave me the idea) so my fly tieing skills are non exhistent :)

BTW, I don't intend to be casting the immitation with a fly rod. The lake I fish is far too overgrown for that.
