Pike lures and traces

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks

I thought I might have a go at fly fishing for pike on my forthcoming trip to the Oxford canal.

I presume one still needs to use a wire trace but how is it connected to the leader.

Also what kind of lures are most effective at this time of year.

Cheers

Scapa

Easiest way to connect is via those little silver carp rings. Dont let anyone talk you into using the albright knot, its not so easy to tie correctly with wet cold hands. Either crimp or twiddle depending on the wire you use. If you're gonna use a few flies in the course of a day then connect to the fly via a lightweight stainless snaplok. If you have confidence in one particular fly and intend to leave it on all day then conect direct to the hook ie no snaplok

I don't find the Albright knot easy to tie with warm dry hands..... :D
