The answer to your question is yes, if you rod is up to it,it is one of John Wilson's favourite pass times, my advice to you is stick to conventional methods like float,ledger etc. for a while, master them and then move on once you have experience

Yes of course. I use my 8/9 saltwater/pike fly rod. But that is because lake is not snaggy, if it is you be using #10 rod.

 

What ever make sure you have lots of backing.

 

Remember what is usually referred to as a sporting set up is anything but especially during hot summers.

 

So forget your #5 thru 7 rods and rimfly reels.
