its only £8 for two hours where you go, most trout puddles charge that sort of money for a full days fishing, still more than other types of fishing i know. why do they charge so much? because people will pay :)

Sadly I just do not have that amount time at present so it is even more expensive for a half day session. But "up north" they have half day tickets!

It started as abit of fun but now I spend alot of time using the fly gear for coarse fish. It also draws a crowd lol. I'd love to know what the Perch following my Peter Ross thought it was!

OK I'm able to get a season of salmon fishing from about £45, which includes good sea trout and brown trout.

there is some free river fishing for brownies up to 3lb, grayling and sea trout to over 7lb within 5 miles of the centre of Newcastle, and yet people still go to stocked ponds and pay £7 a day to fish then £1.50 per pound of trout thereafter............they pay it because ther's a big sign outside saying that fishing is available for "only" £x.

Rivers don't have signs on them, plus you might have to think a bit to find the fish. Finally there are trees and things which make it harder to cast. They don't want to put in the effort to think around these problems.

it just goes to prove that you don't have to be intelligent to fish.

If you don't like paying for fly fishing come up to Orkney where the fishing is free.

Yes folks thanks to the good old Vikings and Udal Law, some of the best wild brown trout and sea trout fishing in Britain is free of charge.

There is a Trout fishing association OTFA which do a lot of stocking and conservation work but membership is only £20 per year and that is voluntary.

Come and give it a try.

Cheers

(wish I was on commission from Orkney Tourist board)
