Good advice Nathen. My wife really got into it a couple of years back, she also ties our flies now.

My eldest son (aged 15) seems to be going the same way as my wife however, he has tried carping and piking and had good doubles at both, however he has settled on fly(and lure to a lesser extent) fishing and does not carp or pike fish any more, in terms of bait fishing. This is a little sad as I used to enjoy being bivvied up with him, but in some ways it is very refreshing that someone who has(and he did fish independently in a different swim to me) caught carp to 18lb, salmon to 6lb on lure, perch to 2lb plus and Pike to 12lb by age 11, has decided that the greatest satisfaction for him comes from catching wee broon troot.

My wife loves fly fishing....will not even entertain going bait fishing. Which means I end up in my bivvy on own

I'm going to put a question on my website called: I have been fly fishing many times but still haven't caught is there another type of bait i could use?

So could i use your answer and put your name underneath?

You are describing fly-gear fishing where you use fly fishing rod/reel/line but with maggot or something else as bait. This is baned at most trout waters, stick with proper fly fishing.....with tied flies :)

If you tell us what rod, reel, line, flies you use and where you are fishing we may be able to help you out.
