Identifying old fly lines?

Hello, does anyone know how to identify the AFTM weight of an old fly line?

(or perhaps knows someone/somewhere that can help).

I know the overall weight of the lines as I weighed them.

Cream (floating)= 29.92 gram

Green (floating) = 25.58 gram

Black (fast sinking?) = 35.08 gram

Reading up the AFTM measurments the weight is relative to 10 yards (30 foot) of line, however I want to find the AFTM of some old (yet unused) lines that lost thier boxes many years ago.

Cheers.

These seem pretty heavy lines - for example an AFTM 12 weighs 24.62 grams according to Peter Mackenzie-Philps "Flycasting Handbook" and of course lower AFTM numbers weigh less Howevever, that is for the first thirty feet (EXCLUDING the level tip - if you included the tip, then the true weight without tip is slightly greater than you say)

Hope this helps, I haven't got any weights for AFTM above 12

If they are old replace them anyway!!!! I replace mine at least once a season, twice if they are damaged in the boat, there is no point trying to cast a line that will not shoot freely.

Wouldn't quarrel with that Greg, but I am intrigued by what these heavy lines might be - old silk salmon lines ?

My fly fishing goes back to having to dry your lines after each trip or they went soggy and sticky.
