Favourite Beatles Track

It's a very interesting list to look at, you will be shocked by the big names that languish well down the pecking order, perhaps suggesting more music & fashion industry favourites rather than customer favourites.

Agreed, but don't forget though that any such list will be tilted towards artists from years gone by. This isn't just because their songs have been around for longer, but also because fewer records etc are sold now.

It's certainly hard to pick a Beatles favourite though, isn't it? There are so many, and the tracks are so varied. Although I couldn't pick a favourite track, my favourite album would also have to be Sargeant Pepper's.

Having said all that, I don't consider the Beatles good singers. But great songwriters definitely yes.

My father though didn't agree. He once told me that he thought the Beatles had never written any decent music. I asked him what he thought was good music then. He replied the great ballad that Shirley Bassey was singing on the radio as we were talking.

What was it? "Yesterday" written by Lennon & McCartney!

I've got to admit I was never really a Beatles Fan; I preferred the Rolling Stones despite their plagiarism of true Blues and R&B, If pushed I would say my favourite Beatles track would be Helter Skelter, that said I prefer the Souixsie and the Banshies cover.

Not uncommon, that. Dylan, Waits, Cohen, etc. I think what really worked with Lennon & McCartney as a song writing partnership was that Lennon's work needed a bit of sugar and McCartney's a bit of lemon. Despite everything being attributed to them both, you can so often see who contributed which songs and which parts of songs.

Right on the mark with that one steve, apart, Lennon & McCartney wrote some great songs but clearly did not reach the stratospheric levels of their combined talents. One of the big disappointments for me was to see how George Harrisons song writing ability plummeted when the Beatles split up, he needed l & M far more than they needed each other.

Quite agree with what you're saying about that list Leon, but still surprised to see the Rolling Stones so far down the pecking order considering they were on the go at the same time, & are still releasing music today.
