Well, still no monster, but got the 15 again :) and 4 others, all but one of these were doubles and all different fish from yesterdays. They all put up a scrap, so def more active, and all with nice full tummies :) I know there is a 17 and a 19 and a 20 living close by......................

Hi Den, so what's your thoughts on my photoperiod theory then? You're another piker whose luck seems to have changed for the better in recent outings.

.....Regards.....Andy..... ;)

You are probably spot on Andy :)....but could just be "time of the year" which amounts to the same thing really.

I have always found that things slow up a bit in December, and then pick up as they start to feed up and make eggs.

I shall probably give it a miss after the end of Feb..not to fond of fishing for heavily pregnant fish, I have been quite vociferous in the past in favour of a close season for pike. They are very vulnerable when carrying a lot of spawn. Most of this weeks fish are "quite fat"

Neil, when I trout fished Bough Beech some years ago, I hooked a huge pike on a big white "fly". It moved slowly off away from the dam, I shed the anchor and it towed me for a while. The bailiff came out in another boat to help, but then the knot sliipped and the fish was gone. Not long after, they allowed pike fishing and they were getting a few 40+.

I still wonder :)

Pike are normally pretty easy to catch if the conditions are steady, they're also well adapted to thrive in cold water conditions.

If there's a sudden change in conditions, it will either encourage them to feed, typically before the event, or put them off feeding.

I think what you're seeing now is the fish coming back onto regular feeding now the cold conditions have stabilised.

Or it might be the full moon.

Or the photoperiod. :D
