wet flies

:confused: I've allways been a dry fly purist where trout are concerned but a friend invited me for a day's still water fishing with him at onny vale. I knew I'd need new wet flies and thought my local tackle shop would know roughly what I might want. No such luck. He only seemed to be interested in coarse fishing. what I want to know is what would be a good selection of wet flies for still water?

Well, for this time of year something along the lines of:

 

cats whisker

viva

minky

 

and don't forget buzzers, mainly black and olive.

some kind of olive damsel nymph.

 

gold ribbed hares ear

boobies (eugh)

Montana

Gold heads (green ones)

Pheasant tails

I'm not exactly a purist, although i do prefer to fish imatively.

Went to town today and bought everything on your list Dunc85. They didn't have any boobies though. They'd sold out so I guess they're fairly popular.

Can I start a thread asking what you are paying for still water trouting across the country? There is a pool just along the road from me,I went to look at their prices. £13 one fish half day £22 two fish all day. Is this about average?

Half day 2 fish £12.00

Full day sport £12

Half day sport £7.00

 

I've noticed it varies depending on location, with down south being most expensive, and the lucky ones in scotland getting it the cheapest.
