Awwww, be fair, of the two weeklies it is consistently the better one. Good on 'em!

I agree Peter. However, it till goes to prove that the country is dumbing down.

A good product will always sell well, great price, good articles and I feel it retains the feeling that fishing is for the majority and not the minority like some specialist magazines......it is the normal anglers choice. Well done.

Esox, In the main I'd agree with you - with the exception of the articles - I may agree if you'd called them 'advertorials', to use the industry jargon.

I also have issues with objectivity of product reviews - they should be independent and not entrusted to people reliant on those manufacturers sending their product for review for their advertising revenue. When was there last a truly critical review of a product? Not recently as far as I'm aware and not all products are 'good'. Many are simply an idea for making releasing money from the gullible.

A good example of what I mean was the Korum chair with the feeder arm attachment. There was a design fault on the origina feeder arm which meant that the bracket wasn't strong enough. It wasn't mentioned in any review I saw and I made the point of doing some digging to support my commnts here before I posted them. A couple of friends of mine were using supports which they's made for themseleves within a week of buying the chair and feeder arm. Korum shortly afterwards released an A-bracket support. Did they offer to give it FOC to those who'd unwittlingly bought a dodgy piece of kit? Erm...no. That's not a criticism of the angling press, just of the method of review. It is, however a criticism of the quality of product development of Korum - and at the time one of their consultants was a major contributor to the AM. I'm not suggesting a degree of nepotism here, just pointing out the cloe relationship between the press and the manufacturers.

I know Elton gets upset when the angling weeklies are criticised, but my criticisms are constructive - rather more so than the product reviews it would seem!
