Fly Fishing help

Recommended Posts

In my ultimate wisdom I have decided to take up FF after 25 years of carping (fishing not moaning!).

I suspect most of my initial fishing will be on local lakes (I live in Lytham St Annes) and perhaps the odd small river trip.

My initial thoughts of which I seek advice -

1. Would a 9' #6/7 rod be adequate as a starter?

2. How does one decide the type of fly/lure/pattern to use?

3. Is winter trouting as hard as winter carping?

4. Does anyone know of local waters around the Fylde?

thanks in advance

Hi Robert,

I have been practising for 2 months with my cousins 10' fly rod on the beach and can stick a 10'leader on a dustbin lid from about 25yds, so the actual casting is ok...it's more the size and type of rod and choosing a fly that I'm stuck with.

Thanks

Dave

I have seen a started kit - 9'6" #6/8 FULL Carbon Rod. Complete with a Lightweight reel. A Fly line with backing and a connector loop. Leader line and fly box with selection of a Dozen Flies.
