avon/quiver rod test curves

Recommended Posts

It's all down to the quality of the blank, the action and the materials used. I used to have a 1.75 lb tc Daiwa Pro Carbon Carp rod that was ideal for chubbing, even on small rivers. The most I could cast with it comfortably was about an ounce and a half. Yet people are now using rods with a lower test curve than that to lob big feeders out with. I have a Shimano rod with a 2 lb test curve that I bought to use for barbel on the Trent, but it just isn't up to the job - ok for chub though. I have a feeling that a top of the range Free Spirit rod at 1.5 lb tc would be far more powerful than my old Daiwa.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.
