Oh Crap...Robson's back

i would rather watch an everyday angler, at least that way your seeing angling for what it is.

Why would you? You'd more likely see nothing as most everyday anglers would be dull as ditch water in front of the camera, and don't possess the necessary skills to convey what they know. (I'm not claiming presenting is some kind of black art, but it's not as easy as people think and it well out side of most peoples skills)

I kinda agree with you both to some degree. From a knowledge point of view, I can see why an everyday angler would be of more interest but for the mainstream viewer, they want someone with a little charisma, so your both right. Finding the balance is hard. John Wilson is probably the closest, in my mind, to the ideal TV angler you can hope for.

This is where Channel 5 have made a boo-boo. In looking for an angler with TV charisma, they've over-egged the pudding by giving us Robson Green. He's too much the mainstream charisma and not enough the angler.

Not sure why you've named three established television presenters to illustrate the point that any one can present a TV show?

Ahhhh, sorry, forgot you post first and think later, want another ten minutes to edit it to what you really mean?

And by the way Bernard Cribbins is a well respected actor first, angler second :)

Well I watched last nights programme and ........I was pleasantly surprised.

It was filmed in British Columbia and covered fishing for sturgeon, coho, and trotting for steelheads.

Then it went for a trip on a commercial fishing boat, in a hurricane.

Not a bow and arrow or rifle in sight!

Despite his annoying "yahooing", I enjoyed the programme. It had some proper angling, fishing, and some genuinely funny moments.

If the rest are of a similar standard, then it would appear that lessons have been learned.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I enjoyed the first series, so I am probably damned anyway :) Last night was good stuff, but.........................I picked up two comments from a couple of hardened carpers.....why did he have to swear so much? Both guys said the same thing..."my missus didn't like the swearing"

I appreciate he is trying to introduce the macho/competitive element, but no need to spoil it Robson.
