I can understand why some people use nicknames etc. But personally i use my own name, I got nothing to hide. If i upset someone not that i do very often, Atleast they know who done it.

i have nothing to hide either but i use chesters* (fort on hadrians wall) on here it used to be just chesters but i forgot the password so rejoined using chesters1 ,other forums i use have different numbers .

as for hiding both my name address and phone number is liberally spread across the web if you use the right search term :D

i could use vagabond officially (as well as rogue) having been convicted for a minor offence under this silly victorian law officially i am one :D but i'l let a finer beard use it ;)

as for the chesters bit we walked hadrians wall on our honeymoon ,octobers not the best month and the sun shone for one day i'l let you guess where we were

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Well, when I first got a hotmail address I tried to get one that started with Andrew, but obviously couldn't, and ended up with anderoo, which I'm sure you'll agree sounds slightly similar, and because my memory is rubbish I now use it for everything I can.

I don't really understand the 'hiding behind pseudonyms' thing. Hiding from what? I know some angling journalists have a thing about it ('the faceless internet knockers' or whatever) but if people want to use a different name on the web, for whatever reason, I can't see the harm. I put my home town on here plus photos of me, and I meet up with other ANers fairly regularly, so I'm not exactly hiding!

Mine is my initials, it started out as ajp (on here) but it got transmuted to ayjay which became my nickname when I joined a pottery evening class.

It's too long and complicated to explain how that started, but it's better than the one I had at home or at school so I'm happy to keep it.

I use Budgie as thats what everyone bar my old Mum knows me as! No hiding here.I dont mind what people put but do think that they should have to give their real name when they register.

But why Im called Budgie though is quite another story!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Bluey is my pen name on all the fishing forums that I frequent, the name came from a small blue teddy bear that belonged to my eldest son, and considering the trouble, and adventures, that accompanied this bear I felt it an appropriate name for myself also

If the hat's missing

I've gone fishing

I think real names are appropriate on some forums, but generally prefer clever nicknames or nom de plumes. I just wish I was wittier at thinking of some!

Sometimes it's nice to be anonymous, nothing sinister in that. I wouldn't dream of going up to everyone on holiday and telling them my full name and address, I'm certainly not going to do it to random strangers reading an internet page. That said, I do sign with my real name, and other details I provide would make tracking me down very easy indeed.

"Angly", obviously because of fishing, but also because of a lovely oriental teacher of my eldest son who, after I pointed out her fairly poor performance in my usual subtle manner, accused me of being very 'angly' person, and even suggested I go on angler management course. Now boiling with rage, I didn't hesitate to point out that in the good old days, when person A was angry at person B because person B was useless, person B then bucked their ideas up. The modern thinking is useless person B becomes the new standard, and person A gets 'adjusted' to learn to accept this new lower level of performance. Ah well, such is progress.
