Can anyone help me source some information on fishing for eels. Baits, rigs, T-rigs (those anti-gorge doo-dahs)...anything at all. A member asked on another forum and I thought it would be nice to ask, seeing as there's a wealth of eely info on here.

I found purley by accident that a bolt rig is good as it seems to hook the eels in their lip rather than a normal running rig where all to often the eels are deep hooked.

I've found if you touch leger big baits you can avoid most of them altogether. :D

If he wants to catch eels Andy tell him to just copy my Wingham bream tactics!

Serious though I cant think of the site URL off hand that shows them.Basics like the JS (John Sidly) Rig are still used a lot but a lot are now using off bottom rigs as well.Have you tried Kevin on the NAC site? I will try and ask about for a site he can look out.

A good book though is "Eel fishing" by John Sidly part of the BeeKay Sucsessfull Angling series.Often available on Ebay for around/under £15.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Thanks for the info. so far people.

Whatever happened to Tony Jolley?? He was our resident eel specialist for ages but he's not been about for ages AFAIK. Is he OK?? It was the subject of eels that made the name click.

I had an email from Clive Dennison a couple of days ago.

He and Tony have been taking a bit of a back seat lately for a variety of reasons, but expect to be taking more of a part in eely things soon :)
