Too much rubbish in AN these days....

Just wondering if other people feel the same way about 'Anglers Net' as, sadly, I do now?

 

When I first joined, about 4-5 years ago it was easily the best UK fishing forum, by far.

 

But now, almost every time someone starts a sensible debate, in come the Malicious Bigots and Mischievous Trolls whose only aim is to see how much unpleasant Sh@t they can spread around.

 

In recent months, the target for all this poison has included: Immigrants, Travellers, Pensioners, people of different religions/culture/color, the disabled, anyone on any kind of benefit, etc. etc. etc...............the list goes on for pages.

 

It's usually the same bunch of Micro-Celaphic Individuals who start the ball rolling, usually replied to by the same group of brainless F@q-wits who just can't see that they are being wound up.

 

When some of the more moderate members try to get involved in order to cool it a bit - the previously mentioned MCI's then get stuck into the moderates & the whole thing degenerates into a 3 ring circus, of no value whatsoever to anyone, bar those sad people who get their rocks off by picking on people who, in the main, are unable or unwilling to get involved in this Bigotry.

 

I really think this sort of thing has no place in Anglers Net.

 

Being retired and not being able to get out of the house too much these days, I spend a lot of time on the internet and usually check AN 3 or 4 times a day for 'new posts'.

 

Just recently however, there seems to be 3 or 4 PAGES of new posts every time I check, these consist of a few interesting topics (maybe half a page), the usual amount of the above mentioned CRAP, and a couple of pages of BBC news items - do we really need these?

 

If I want to see the news I can go to the BBC news site, or watch the news on TV, or Teletext, I do not want to see the news (unless it's related to Angling) on an Angling web site.

MCI's and F@q-wits getting their rocks off sure beats a lot of other forums for interest. Think you are bang out of order, Elton is trialling the BBC news site, but to condemn the fact he is trying something new is poor. Your average posts on here add up to about 30 a year, even in the good old days that you refer to your input was pathetic, and yet you are commenting that the site has slipped....Mischievous Trolls? you said it!!

Surely this thread and post has to come top of the brainless cr*p list, just because you don't like a variety of opinions whether they be right or wrong you are castigating them all.

 

And who are you to decide whether or not this so called cr*p has a place on AN, this a chat section about anything other than fishing.

 

If you don't like don't log on it is that easy even a brainless pratt like me knows that.

Ken, with the greatest respect, I think you are being too harsh! I too can remember the halcyon days when I first joined AN - and I agree with the comments, even though I am one of the brainless f@k-wits!! I have found several times in the last few months that you can post just about anything you like on the forum, and THE SAME OLD POSTERS cant wait to post a reply. Even though they say that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, I have learned a lot on these forums!

O.K. he made a report about the news, but he was only voicing an opinion -something we can ALL do on this forum!

I too spend quite a lot of time on AN and agree that there are a lot of postings that, quite simply don't fit in here. But times are changing and I am an old man. We must encourage the new, younger posters because, like it or not THEY are the future of angling!

AN is not just about fishing, indeed I would venture the opinion that fishing is quite a small part of it.

 

The non fishing section is an absolute goldmine of info, whether it be wanting help with an ebay problem down to advice on catalytic converters

 

You want a laugh?? just look in on the nonfishing section...brightens my day most days of the week.

 

BBC news? I can't be bothered, but lets see how it goes.

Barry Kneller - some of what you say is valid but part of the new things is Elton trying really hard to offset the cost of operating this forum you've enjoyed for many years.

 

One thing he tried years ago and that is still available is to become a contributing member at some level. If enough folks do that, he can relax and at least have AN paying for itself.

 

I notice you've never bothered to contribute any money toward keeping the place alive.

 

As long as AN is simply free entertainment for you, you have the same right to complain that a non-voter has to complain about who gets elected. None.
