'Feathering' casts?

Gaffer

Recommended Posts

I usually feather my casts, unless I'm going for mental ranges, and even then I like to be, literally, in touch with whatever the lead lands on.

Being a tad heavy-handed, I prefer to over-cast the mark, then feather the cast and 'brake' the rig for a soft landing. I kid myself into thinking I'm 'steering' the flight of the rig, I guess.

Works for me! :)

Fixed spool at long range to an area (as opposed to a target) - rarely.

Fixed spool to a nearby target - occasionally if I've misjudged distance or rig weight. Index finger on the spool.

Multiplier - always. Thumb on spool.

Fly rod - if needed and by squeezing the line as needed.
